Have you ever wanted to be a part of something bigger than yourself? Maybe feel like a character in your own life? Or know that everything was going to end up right and happy in the end?
If you have no idea of what I am talking about, then you have never been a fan of a fictional reality in your life. For these are all questions that plague the minds of those who treasure the worlds found in tv shows or books over their own.
You may think that the statement seems strange or incorrect about humanity, but what I tell you now is completely true.
For those fans, some worlds are not fictional, but the reality. Instead, they see the real world as a restrictive barrier from living in the reality they so love. They believe that if they were to be a part of the life, then just maybe they could be happy.
But life never works that way. Nope, instead you are beaten with the harsh reality that magic doesn't exist and that you will never be more than an average nobody who is a side character in your own life.
It sounds depressing and it really is, but it is the truth.
Thus these fans turn towards their favorite shows and books obsessively. They try to be as close to the life, to the characters, and to the world as they most possibly can.
Soon their entire life is that show.
Now all the information in their brain is trivia and every day they can be found dressed as their favorite character. As well, the only people they feel really comfortable around is the characters they so love.
To them, this life is a dream. But from the outside world, they are not living one at all.
Instead, they are so caught up in their own heaven, they do not even realize that there is life waiting for them to pass through.
Either way, an obsessive fan is caught in a web of depression. Whether they live their life surrounded by disappointment and unfamiliar surroundings, or they do not live a life and regret it in the end.
The same can be said of fans of sports.
They can become so obsessive with their home team, they fail to recognize that there is more to life than superstitions and the men (or women) who make up the teams. Soon everything they own is merchandise or themed objects, and they find themselves secluded from the outside world more and more each day.
Whatever the obsession, every fan has had a moment in which they missed out on one or two important events so they did not miss their favorite program. They may deny it, justify it even, but deep down the fact remains.
This is the harsh depression of the life of a fan.
