Nonetheless: 2018

He never understood

What made her beautiful.

Was it the way her eyes

Lit up like glittering gems in the sea?

Maybe it was the way her skin

Was softer than the petals of a rose?

Perhaps it was the way her hair

Always seemed to fall so perfectly?

Or even the way her scent met him

As he gingerly pressed his lips to her neck?

She never understood

Why he thought of her as beautiful.

Her eyes

Were the most plain color she'd ever seen.

Her skin

Reminded her of when dirt landed on the sand.

Her hair

Was the worst thing to deal with every morning.

Her Scent

Was that of depression and dying dreams.

Yet they loved one another nonetheless

Always trying to prove everything to themselves.

Even when there was nothing else to prove

They continued to try.

Escape: 2018

He traces his fingertips along her porcelain skin,

Sitting up slightly as she pulls away from her arms.

She tugs down her sleeves and averts her eyes,

Tears beginning to well up as she cries.

Slowly, he moves a hand to her face,

Wiping away her tears as he shakily asks her, "Why?"

She holds her hands to her chest,

Sleeves slowly falling with every shaky breath.

He glances down to see the paper-thin scars,

Decorating her delicate arms.

Moving away, she wipes at her eyes,

Explaining that's how she deals with pain bottled up inside.

He takes a deep breath,

Tucking her hair behind her ear.

"You don't need to harm yourself

When you have somebody there for you."

She just shakes her head,

Looking at him with an expression of dread.

"Even when I rant to you,

The demons inside want out.

They claw and bite,

Until I let them escape."

Drowning: 2018

My heart beats quickly

As I try to find my escape

Planning for so long

Only to realize my downfall

Trying to catch up

Only to fall down

My heart beats for two

But only one responds

Everything's spinning

I can't see straight

Struggling to breathe

Tears roll down my face

As if they were streams

Connecting to an ocean

My heart stills slowly

I'm drowning in despair

Struggling to stay afloat

Trying to realize the truth

I won't make it out alive

As my lungs fill with doubt

3 becomes 2 becomes 1

Nobody hears my calling

I'm drowning

I'm screaming

I'm dying

Alone.

Fade: 2018

Eventually, everything will fade,

The dark of night -

The light of day.

Around you, I felt no pain,

Until you left -

Now it will stay.

Screaming loud for all to hear,

They only ignore me -

Not knowing what to say.

One day all these scars will heal,

Unknowingly becoming canvases -

Rubies falling from where I lay.

Do they notice,

Do they care -

Will they make me pay?

Christmas tree

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
