While DePauw is known for its beautiful campus, stunning views, and renovated buildings we never hear much about what I believe to be DePauw’s best feature: Prindle. Now as a freshman last year, this was a hidden gem to me. I’ve heard people talking about it and knew where it was, but never really spent much time visiting. One piece of advice: don’t make the mistake I did. Utilize Prindle as much as you can. You won’t be disappointed.
After being on campus for a couple months now, I’ve taken more time utilizing the Prindle facilities. Not only am I the biggest fan of the Nature Park which contains acres of beautiful trails for running, the architecture of the Prindle Institute of Ethics is absolutely astounding. Now that midterms are approaching, both me and my schedule has been getting pretty crammed and stressed. But, luckily, I found the perfect solution to ease the tension. Prindle has become my favorite study spot, my favorite place to walk and run, and my favorite home on DePauw’s campus. When I walk in, I feel like I’m at a resort located on the top of a mountain; never would I expect it to be hidden away in Greencastle. You are completely isolated from the rest of the campus and world.
If you haven’t been inside yet, you need to. Just walking into the front door, you immediately experience a sense of solitude. You won’t find many people or distractions inside Prindle, which makes a great spot for studying. There’s couches, private meeting rooms, tables, or an auditorium all accessible for students. And, if you get tired or need a quick study break, just walk outside and take a stroll through the nature park. It’s guaranteed to ease your stress and relax your mind. Additionally, Prindle has a kitchen stocked with tea, coffee or some snacks all open to the public. Perfect if you need a caffeine kick for a long day of homework.
Prindle opens at 8 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. during the weekdays. I one hundred percent recommend you go give it a look if you haven’t already. Do yourself, and your grades a favor and go. You won’t be disappointed.
