November 12th was a big day for the DePauw Tigers. Wabash has always been a long time rival for DePauw. Each year, this rivalry faces it's peak when the two football teams compete for the honorary trophy: The Monon Bell. The winner of the game gets to take the Bell home with pride to their campus. After 7 years, DePauw finally got the bell back to where it belongs.
This is always an anticipated event. DePauw Student Government designs and orders Monon shirts for all the students. Many alum return to support their favorite school and tailgate parking lots overflow with students, parents and alum dressed head to toe in black and gold.
The game was sold out and stands were packed with people and the rivalry was strong, as was the score. DePauw held the lead for majority of the game, but approaching the end of the fourth quarter, the lead alternated back and forth between teams. DePauw finished it off with a touchdown with about 2 minutes to, which allowed them to finish with the big W over Wabash. The final score 37-34.
DePauw students and players were filled with excitement as the student body stormed the field to celebrate the win with the players. The bell was brought to the field while anyone had the opportunity to give it a loud ring. Following the game, the bell was brought back onto DePauw's campus by a police escort.
Overall, it was a great day to be a Tiger. The day was filled with laughter, smile, friends, football, tailgate and some great memories. We are proud of our Tiger football players and are happy to have the bell back in the Castle. Until next year, Monon.
