The 27-year-old has been battling drug and alcohol addiction, bipolar disorder, bulimia, and self-harm that started from her difficult transition from "Barney and Friends" star to the adult pop performer. She has always been an icon of mine, she was always so different than other starts we grew up with. Anyone who knows her knows she always about body positivity, she makes living in your own skin a safe place. Her music speaks of all the battles she took on and tells a story through them. Demi is someone who walks her own path, even if it backfires. She shares her best and worst days with anyone who cares to listen, in person, and even on social media, both of which are very unusual to other pop singers.
Demi wants to make a change in this world, She is part of a campaign called Stomp Out Bullying and wants to prevent other children from experiencing what she experienced, actually while on tour she canceled a show because of a state enforcing the Bathroom Bill. According to Wikipedia, the Bathroom Bill states that "individuals [must use the restroom] based on the sex they were assigned at birth." So basically, the Bathroom Bill prevents trans women from using the woman's restroom and prevents trans men from using the men's restroom. She's totally against it and believes that you should be able to use whichever gender's bathroom you identify with. Not a lot of stars would go to that extent, but when she believes in something, there is no turning her away, ever.
Nowadays, Demi is just known for her overdose in July 2018, ever since there have been endless jokes, videos, and just morally things wrong that were posted about it. If anyone has been following her, as I have, know that she is more than just her overdose. She is a young adult dealing with an awful battle but is still a fighter. She is a mental health queen. She has helped thousands of people who deal with the same things every single day. She just launched 'The Mental Health Fund', as a way to donate money to groups that focus on crisis counseling via text messaging. The initiative started in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic with the shelter-at-home orders, which may have adverse effects on those struggling with their mental health.
Overall, Demi deserves more than she is getting. She is a mental health queen, she supports ALL human rights and is all about women empowerment. She is a fighter. Also not to mention, an amazing role model. Demi is so much more than her past and I think it's wrong to judge her for her battles. I have been following her since her days at camp rock and I wouldn't want anyone else to look up to. I'm thankful for what she and her music got me through. She is one of the only down to earth celebrities we have around today.
