Delta Phi Epsilon ANAD Week

A philanthropy event that Delta Phi Epsilon keeps close at heart is their annual ANAD (Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders) Week. On Monday, Oct. 13, the sisters of the Gamma Omicron chapter at Georgia Southern University will commence a week of activities meant to bring fun and awareness to the campus.

Delta Phi Epsilon urges students to realize that they are enough; they’re beautiful inside and out, and they shouldn’t let anyone tell them otherwise. The activities are open to the entire campus; male students are definitely encouraged to participate

Monday, Oct. 13:

Scale Smashing at the Rotunda from 10:00am-2:00pm

Sisters want the campus to know that you are more than just a number. Weight scales will be at the rotunda on Monday. Students are encouraged to come out, write a message on the scales, and smash it to bits!

Zumba in the RU Ballroom from 7:00pm-8:00pm

Exercise should be a fun way to get healthy, not a way to conform to society’s body standards. Join sisters for a fun zumba session at the Union Monday evening.

Tuesday, Oct. 14:

"I'm Better Than Barbie" sheet sign at the Rotunda from 10:00am-2:00pm

There are a million reasons why you’re better than Barbie. Stop by the rotunda on your way to class and write your personal reason for being better.

ANAD Fashion Show in the RU Ballroom from 6:30-8:00

Clothing stores around Statesboro have donated beautiful pieces that will be displayed at the ANAD Fashion show. Tickets are being sold by sisters now and are $5 a piece.

Wednesday, Oct. 15:

Trash Your Insecurities at the Rotunda from 10:00am-2:00pm

Throw those insecurities away. It’ll be as easy as stopping by the rotunda on the way to class.

Percentage night at Big Shows from 6:00pm-9:00pm

Hungry? Go to Big Shows for dinner on Wednesday night and tell them you’re there for Delta Phi Epsilon. A percentage of your meal will go to the philanthropy.

Thursday Oct. 16:

Learn more about ANAD at the Rotunda from 10:00am-2:00pm

Learn more about the philanthropy with a quick stop at the rotunda.

Candlelight vigil at the Rotunda from 7:00pm-8:00pm

The sisters invite the campus to come hear why ANAD is such a special philanthropy to them, and why positive body image is so important.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
