To be honest, I kind of feel bad for Thanksgiving. As soon as Halloween is over, the pumpkins disappear and craft stores haul out the mistletoe and holly completely skipping over what I think is the greatest holiday ever created. Thanksgiving is a time to get together with your family members that you really only see a few times a year, remember how fortunate you are, and, most importantly, eat. Seriously, how many days a year are you permitted, nay, obligated to eat as much as you want? To celebrate, I have compiled a ranked list of Thanksgiving favorites. If you think one’s missing or something’s out of order, feel free to write in the comments below!
1. Turkey
Sorry, vegetarians, but this just isn’t your holiday. Seriously. If Gilmore Girls taught us one thing, it’s that tofurkey is not a suitable, non-meat alternative for the main event of the meal. Turkey is the quintessential, stereotypical, and most delicious Thanksgiving food of all time and has no other place on this list except for at the top.
2. Stuffing
I don’t actually like stuffing, but I see all of my relatives pair it with their turkey every year, so there’s gotta be something good about it. Since stuffing s turkey’s best friend, it earned the number two spot on my list.
3. Mashed Potatoes
The third amigo of turkey and stuffing, all of which taste fantastic smothered in gravy; however, despite their simple nature, they are very easy to mess up. Delicious potatoes are a must
4. Pumpkin Pie
The greatest Thanksgiving dessert ever. No question.
5. Dinner Rolls
Dinner rolls serve two functions: a way to mop up extra gravy on your plate and the basis for your late-night, next-day leftover turkey sandwich. Warm and soft rolls are essential.
6. Cranberry Sauce
I honestly prefer the gelatin from a can stuff but homemade is pretty good, too.
7. Green Bean Casserole
Unfortunately, there needs to be something on our plates other than a starch, so green bean casserole is a necessity on the Thanksgiving table.
8. Sweet potatoes
Although not as good as their just plain mashed brethren, sweet potatoes taste great with a little butter and brown sugar
