A Definitive Ranking Of "Grey's Anatomy" Characters
abc.com

If you're like me, Grey's is probably one of your favorite shows and if not you'll probably admit to at least having seen it. While the show as a whole could not be any more heart-wrenching/amazing, we have to admit some characters are definitely better than others. And so here is a definitive ranking of major "Grey's Anatomy" characters. -SPOILER ALERT-

21. Izzie

Though she's not around for that long out of the 12 seasons of Grey's, she was still pretty damn annoying. Some people loved Izzie and Denny together, and of course we all teared up when she got sick, but she was never the best doctor to begin with and she ditched Karev which is totally uncool.

20. Arizona

If you're still early on into watching Grey's you probably like Arizona like we all used to. But over time she just got progressively worse and after cheating on Callie, nothing was ever the same.

19. Owen

Truthfully Owen kind of sucks. He was always scary and a little aggressive from his days during the war, but never respecting Christina's decisions about their life together and ultimately cheating on her made him much less favorable.

18. Teddy

Even though many grew to love Teddy once she became Christina's mentor, and had her husband died in surgery, she was always sort of blah and for that she doesn't rank too highly on the list.

17. Maggie

Nothing against Maggie, she's actually extremely likable and we appreciate her spunk but she's just too new to surpass other people on the list.

16. Adele

Poor Adele. This woman could not have had a more difficult life. Hats off to her for dealing with Alzheimer's and competing with Elis Grey.

15. George

007. If you didn't cry when George died, I would argue that part of your soul is probably missing. Through his ups and downs in the show he still remained lil O'Mailey and died as a hero. We miss you George.

14. Amelia

As much as Derek's sister grew on us she's still one of Derek's annoying, overbearing sisters. She only recently became a main character so if you've been dedicated to Grey's since season 1, you're probably like me and still consider her a newbie.

13. April

I'm not going to lie and say at first I hated April and was thrilled to see her let go when Mercy West and Seattle first merged, but once she started running that ER and married Jackson, she became more of a likable main character.

12. Richard

While Richard did some pretty shitty things, he did always try to be the father figure Meredith never really had in Thatcher, and he was twice the chief that Hunt would ever be.

11. Addison

Though she left early on, I don't know many people that aren't a fan of Addison Montgomery. She was such a badass lady. We all probably hated her at first when Derek chose her over Meredith and realizes she cheated on McDreamy. But she only proved how awesome she could be as the show went on. Plus she saved little babies, so she was totally a hero.

10. Jackson

Those dreamy green eyes are enough to put him at #1. And lets not forget him constantly taking his shirt off *heart eyes*. But Jackson was always more than a pretty face. Being Mark Sloan's protege, Avery proved he'd be a truly talented doctor and boss.

9. Jo

Yes, she's not an attending yet but Jo gets high points for her kickass chick appeal, her rough life, and the fact she's dating Alex Karev, an all star Grey's character from day one. Her personality and her beauty make her a total dime, plus she's a pretty nifty doctor too.

8. Bailey

The Nazi! Bailey trained half the cast to be who they are in the show today and she was an awesome single mom for a while before meeting perfect, sweet Ben. How can you not love sassy little Bailey?

7. Lexie

If Lexi isn't one of your favorite characters you're probably lying considering she's gorgeous, ridiculously smart and Meredith's adorable baby sister. She was also part of one of the most unstoppable duos on Grey's since it aired. Her death will forever haunt us. We love you Lexiepedia.

6. Mark

Mark Sloan is undeniably one of the greatest people on Grey's. Besides being super hot and Derek's best friend, his friendship with Callie and being Sophia's dad absolutely stole our hearts, along with most other things he did as well.

5. Christina

Christina has to be high up in the ranks just because she's a Grey's original and Mer's best friend. She also had some of the most iconic lines in Grey's history, had to deal with some less than great men and she became a cardio godess herself. Keep on dancing it out Yang.

4. McDreamy

Some of you are probably appalled I didn't rank him higher. But truthfully, Derek took forever to to realize Meredith was the one and he let his ego get in the way of a lot of fights he and Mer had together. Despite his faults, he is still nearly perfect and he and Meredith will always be #goals.

3. Callie

Callie Torres will forever be one of the strongest, if not the strongest Grey's character. She has been through more than anyone and still come out on top. Her friendship with Mark, her undying love for Arizona, and her skills in ortho easily put her in the top three.

2. Meredith

Of course Meredith was going to rank high up, I mean she is the main character. Throughout all 12 Seasons she's battled so much and still managed to retain her skill to end up being just as impressive as her mother. Her adorable children and her husband make them the picture perfect family. It's hard to find someone better than Mer.

1. Alex

But #1 goes to Alex Karev. I could write a novel strictly about why Alex deserves this spot, but in short: he's funny, a peds surgeon, which is the cutest thing you can be, a trooper, a badass, totally handsome and a great partner to all the women he'd been in serious relationships with, especially Jo. Alex is the underdog of Grey's and is definitely the best character.

female tv characters
We Heart It

Over the past decade, television has undergone a very crucial transition: the incorporation of female lead characters. Since it's a known fact that girls actually do run the world (Beyonce said so herself), it's time for the leading ladies of the small screen to get some credit. Without these characters, women would still be sitting in the background of our favorite shows. These women are not only trailblazers for female empowerment, but role models for women worldwide. With that, here are 15 of the smartest, sassiest ladies gracing our screens that remind us that women do, indeed, rule:
