Oh, Easter. It's that wonderful time of year where the weather is changing from dreary winter to lively spring. The flowers and (in DC) cherry blossoms are in full bloom and the old adage "April showers bring May flowers" is on everyone's mind. One of the best times of this transitional period is Easter. While of course it is a religious holiday, Easter is also known for the special pastel candies. However, some of them are better than others.
1. Cadbury Creme Eggs
Cadbury Creme eggs, one of the best British imports, are Easter staples. With the rich chocolate exterior and the über sweet creme interior, these are one seasonal treat that you always remember.
2. Peeps
Yes, Peeps are now found yearly, or at least for every holiday, but they are originally an Easter candy. These delectable marshmallow confections are a sugar overdose that is very much worth it.
3. Lindt Chocolate Bunnies
Everyone loves chocolate bunnies, but Lindt rises above and beyond. With beautiful gold wrapping and sumptuous Swiss chocolate, they are a special treat for anyone.
4. Reese's chocolate eggs/bunnies
Again, Reese's is a normal candy, but who can go wrong with a chocolate and peanut butter egg or bunny? Reese's are delicious for all seasons. Also the chocolate-to-peanut butter ratio is perfect.
5. Jelly Beans
A sweet spring classic, these candies are a bit too sweet and sticky, but they still come in interesting flavors that always bring one back to Easter egg hunts.
6. Whopper/Malted Milk Eggs
As we should know from Halloween, malted milk balls are rarely a favorite. This is not any better in egg form. Why would anyone choose malted milk when they could easily have a Hershey's Kiss or any other generic candy?
While many brands specifically try pastels for the springtime, such as Snickers and M&Ms, there are many classic "Easter" candies that try to win everyone's love, and some are obviously tastier than others.
