Every single person has their favorite Disney princess. Maybe you love Belle’s affinity for books or relate to Aurora’s laziness. Regardless, each princess has her strengths and weaknesses. Here is a concise ranking of each princess.
12. Snow White
Snow White is by far the worst princess. Congrats on your fantastic singing voice, that doesn’t give you an excuse to enslave seven hard-working miners. Snow White is also very dumb and naive and while she does cook and clean (very progressive Disney!) for her roommates, she also expects them to take care of her through her countless missteps. Stranger danger, y’all.
11. Cinderella
Poor Cindy. Her life really is a bummer. However, she really should try to get out of town instead of letting material things turn her life around. I’ll never understand why a sparkly dress and male attention makes all the difference. Save yourself, Cindy, save yourself.
10. Sleeping Beauty
Honestly, Aurora has got it all. While the curse is not her fault, it does make for a snooze of a movie. Also, she barely had to lift a finger and she got a guy to slay the dragon for her. But, honestly Aurora, you are so dang lazy. Wake up.
9. Ariel
Ariel is darn cute so it’s pretty easy to see how Prince Eric was immediately taken with her. Her life under the sea is kind of crummy, with her overbearing father and jealous sisters. Unfortunately, that is typical of most young girls. It’s very difficult to believe she really combed her hair with a fork. Also, find a pen and paper to communicate with Eric. COME ON.
8. Belle
Props to Belle for looking past the Beast’s horrific appearance and truly falling in love with him. However, there isn’t much wrong with her provincial life. Quit whining and take care of your poor father Belle.
7. Merida
Merida represents a new brand of princess and is not about any of those misogynistic traditions. While she is certainly more progressive in her thoughts, Disney couldn’t help themselves and threw in that typical princess storyline, with Merida at odds with her mom. Merida, I love your strong spirit but don’t take out your angst on your mom. Especially when magic is involved.
6. Jasmine
Jasmine has the princess mentality for sure. Her dad has spoiled her and treats her like a prize and she believes it. Poor Aladdin works and works to please her and she still acts a little haughty. I appreciate her no-BS attitude, though. Keep it up, girl.
5. Rapunzel
A perfect portrayal of the emotional toll life in a tower takes on a girl. Rapunzel is very sweet and slightly naive, but also incredibly cautious. She kicks butt when needed, but also has a huge heart, not tainted by the scary world around her.
4. Pocahontas
Pocahontas doesn't deserve this. Her story is not the sweetest or the most historically accurate, and the honest romanticizing of colonization is pretty messed up. Despite all this, Pocahontas truly stands her ground and loves her home and that is the sweetest of all.
3. Anna and Elsa
The typical “princess needs her prince/ true love’s kiss” trope is finally eliminated. The bond of sisters and the loyalty the girls have for each other, despite the estrangement and obstacles they face shines through in their story. Anna and Elsa are the perfect princesses in their flaws and their awkwardness but also in their sweetness and dedication to each other.
2. Mulan
Who doesn't love a princess saving herself? Mulan takes a bad situation and makes it a positive. She works hard and doesn’t let her womanhood get in the way of anything. Also, it’s all for her family. Go Mulan.
