People use the word 'love' as if it is an everyday word. Similar to the way 'and' is a frequent word. The word is thrown around like it is meaningless, yet there is so much meaning and emotion behind the word. To experience love is to experience to most terrifying, yet beautiful feeling a person can have. It is a certainty that is uncertain. It is the emotion that makes life worth living.
All too often people throw around the word and they don't understand what they're saying. They don't realize that this word has the ability to create something beautiful or destroy someone emotionally. One of the most powerful emotions that we have is love. People kill for love, people start wars for love, people are irrational for love. In our generation, I don't think we understand what love truly is. You don't use that word when you want to get something from someone. We are used to this word to get us what we want; it is used as a word for a desire for something but emotion is absent from the meaning. It's basically a word that is thrown around to fulfill people’s own selfish desires. Tell me this, do you know what love is? I honestly could not have told you what love was until my own selfish tendencies were transformed to the want for someone else’s desires to be met no matter the cost to my well-being.
As a generation that seeks approval, we all want to be loved, but we search for love in all the wrong places. People replace love with sex, drugs, and anything that gets your mind to replace the feeling of being wanted and loved. Why is it so easy for us to say that we love someone when in all actuality there is no meaning behind it? Does this make it easier for a person to feel wanted? Do people understand that saying “I love you” can create destruction from within a person?
I am a firm believer in love. I believe that it is patient, kind, understanding, and everlasting. I believe that if you love someone you wouldn't hurt them; you wouldn't play games with their minds. You wouldn't use physical needs to show someone you love, you wouldn't play with their minds by saying you love them and not doing anything about it. You wouldn't tell them you Love them if you did not mean it and you had no intention to prove it.
We all search for love, regardless of what people say. We all want that feeling of being wanted by someone and to only be wanted by that one person. We are too quick to throw out the word 'love' just so we can have a temporary feeling that is not actually love. Love is to be the most beautiful forgiving emotion that makes a person feel alive. When used wrong, it has the ability to kill someone emotionally. Use the word to its deepest context.
