Communication has completely turned around from what it used to be. Recently, I heard on the radio that there aren’t many phones around anymore that aren’t “fancy” (smartphones). But because of the abilities of technology, it’s not necessarily the bad thing everybody makes it out to be. I agree I find it hard nowadays to find a teenager, or even an adult, without some kind of electronic/communication device attached at the hip. I also have that problem. But think of all the good things that come out of having all of these advancements in this century, such as Schoology. I find it so much easier to catch up if I miss a day of school, or even to finish notes that I wasn’t able to finish in class. There’s also facebook and twitter to keep up on the latest news, Instant Messaging to get information that is needed quickly and efficiently, and even something as simple as emailing if you want to make things more formal.
If I had to live in a world without this technology, I don’t think I’d be able to do it. This is what’s wrong with this world. When I’m at a restaurant with family or friends, I will see people on dates or out with friends or family, and I bet they won’t be interacting with each other. We see all of these news stories of people getting in car accidents, because of texting and driving; there is even a snapchat filter stating, “Don’t snap and drive”. The fact that people have to be reminded to be safe is scary, and it will only get worse from here unless something is done about it. It starts with us as a society making the change. We are to blame for the lack of communication because we are letting electronics overrun our social intelligence. We are relying on texting and facebook to get information, rather than a face-to-face conversation. Today, society has been overpowered by the iPhone 7, and the Galaxy edge. In six months we will be drooling over the iPhone 8 and whatever new Galaxy phone will be out. It’s amazing how powerful phone companies are becoming with all of their “switch to this company and you will get your first four phones for free” deals, when in all reality, you are more than likely paying more than you bargained for. We as members of this society need to recognize the effect that electronics are having on us. We can rebuild as one, and begin to turn communication back into its original definition.
