With the launch of American Horror Story season 6 last Wednesday, Sept. 14, the internet went crazy. The mysterious trailers did not show a theme, which is what the show is so well-known for and the producers did not reveal any details about the season's plot and characters. I asked my friends enthusiastically if they wanted to watch the season premiere with me and an answer I got very frequently is "but I didn't watch the first five seasons." Let me tell you something: You do not need to watch all seasons of American Horror Story.
American Horror Story is an anthology horror television series, meaning that every season has a different set of characters and a new storyline. Each season has its own beginning, middle and end, which leaves the viewer to wonder: What is next? So the most avid American Horror Story viewer and someone who has never seen the series will have the same starting point at the beginning of every season. It is up to the viewer to decide which season they like and which they don't, with American Horror Story's different approach there is a season for everyone. Not sure where to start? Let me guide you through all the seasons:
American Horror Story: Murder House
The Harmon family moves from Boston to Los Angeles seeking a fresh start after the wife had a miscarriage and the husband an affair. They move into a restored mansion, unaware of its bloody past and its haunting former residents. Perhaps the season with the biggest impact on pop culture, no one can deny that with its spooky twists, this season will definitely keep you hooked.
Creepy level: 7
Even Peters' hotness: Off the scale
This is the season where every girl fell in love with Evan Peter, do I need to say more
American Horror Story: Asylum
Definitely the season with the most horror, American Horror Story's second season revolves around a mental institution's staff and inmates in 1964. Bonus: Adam Levine has a recurring role.
Creepy level: 8
Evan Peters' hotness: Polygamy has never looked better
American Horror Story: Coven
Witches, voodoo and everything in between. The third seasons focuses on a Coven of Salem decedants in New Orleans. Intense topics such as racism are not off the table this season. Emma Roberts makes her American Horror Story debut.
Creepy level: 6,5
Evan Peters' hotness: Frat boy Evan is the best Evan
Evan Peter's hotness: Even in death, nothing can separate us from loving him
American Horror Story: Freak Show
This is the season with the strongest and most obvious references to the past season, but you will still be able to understand the storyline without having watched all the series. It tells the story of one of the last freak shows struggling to survive in 1952, Florida.
Creepy level: 7,5
Evan Peters' hotness: The least freaky
American Horror Story: Hotel
The first season without Jessica Lange and with Lady Gaga. Just like Freak Show, this season is interconnected with previous seasons. The references will get noticed by frequent watchers, but the new viewer will not be thrown off-guard by it. The season revolves about the strange and bloody Hotel Cortez in Los Angeles, which catches the eye of a homicide detective. There are many biblical references and mentions of classic murder stories throughout the story.
Creepy level: 7,5
Evan Peters' hotness: We're not sure
American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare
Although the first episode has already premiered, there is still a lot of mystery around this season. What we do know is that an inter-racial couple moves to a house on Roanoke Island in North Carolina after surving a brutal assault in California. Strange and paranormal activities start to haunt the couple as soon as they move in. This season is being told through documentry-style interviews and reenactment, which sets this season apart from the others. It is currently widely speculated that this season will revolve around the infamous 1590s Roanoke Colony disappearance.
Creepy level: 8 (judging the first episode)
Evan Peters' hotness: Unknown
Although he is on the main cast list, Evan Peters is yet to appear on the show. No worries, he wasn't in the first episode of last season either.
Are you ready for season 6? Tune in on FX on Wednesdays at 10 PM.
