I absolutely love movies. Watching movies and television shows are actually two of my favorite things to do. I would say that most of my vocabulary is quotes from movies and shows. It is kind of cool because I am able to find others like me and we tend to have full on conversations with nothing but quotes, but it is also bad because there are times when someone has no idea what it is from and I have to explain what movie or show it was from. Either way, it is still a good characteristic I will forever be quite proud of it.
When I go see a film in theaters, I always go in with an open mind. I do not care about what critics or other people say about the movie because their opinions never really matter to me. That, however, is not the case with most people. Today it seems like people worry about what others say about a movie than make a decision for themselves. It is a shame because people get a preconceived notion when the see the movie and end up not enjoying it. Shame shame shame shame.
The movie theater is a place to escape the realities of our everyday lives. We go in, watch the previews, (which let us be honest here, we all love the most) and relax as we get brought into a world where our dreams come true. Watching these characters play out their lives and feeling like you have joined in on their adventures. Then as the story goes on, you start picturing yourself in those situations. What would you do? Where would you go? Movie franchises like "Star Wars," "The Lord of the Rings," and "Harry Potter" really hit those questions.
Now, it is not the same for all movies because yes, there are bad movies out there and we still give them a chance. They are not all bad. Recently, "Ghostbusters" had a reboot with an all-female group with a guy playing the receptionist. The reason I picked this movie is because it received the most backlash out of any movie I have ever seen, even when it was first announced.
People calling men misogynists because they though an all female cast was a bad idea. First off, they mainly thought the idea was a bad idea because why would you mess with something that is already so good? Secondly, Hollywood is all about the money. I was skeptical about it at first, but in the end, I liked the movie because it was a refreshingly original story. Was it the best movie ever, of course not, but I enjoyed every minute of it.
When did we start making decisions based off of what others say? In the last few years, I have started going to the movies by myself because it is a different experience than with others. I love movies and I will defend the cinema until I die. Make the choice of whether it was a good movie or not by yourself. No one's opinion matters to you except yours alone. Just remember that.
