Deejay's Over Analysis: Rudolph Edition

One night, as I was at work doing what I do best (nothing), I caught myself singing along to the Christmas songs that were playing. The infamous, "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" song came on and it hit me: it's much more than a song about a reindeer with a red nose. A serious lesson can be brought out of this song. That being said, here's my over analysis of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer".

"Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw it, you would even say it glows."

Rudolph is obviously a reindeer with a special ability - maybe even magical. He could possibly be a special needs reindeer. Nobody really knows, but we all know that he is one of a kind.

"All of the other reindeer, used to laugh and call him names. They wouldn't let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games"

If I didn't know any better I would call this bullying! The other reindeer wouldn't let the poor reindeer play with them because his nose shined bright like a diamond. He couldn't help that his nose would give him away in hide-and-seek. It wasn't his fault that when his heart started beating fast so did his nose. Maybe they were jealous of poor Rudolph?

*Skips a few lines*

Long story short

That one specific Christmas Eve, it was foggy and no one could see. Santa came up with this brilliant idea to use Rudolph as a flashlight to guide him through the night. Now, in my opinion, if I was Rudolph I would have said no, because "Back then they didn't want me, now I'm hot they all on me". Santa was just using Rudolph, and you know homeboy slow so he didn't think anything of it, so he said yes.

"Then how the reindeer loved him, as they shouted out with glee (yippie) ! Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, you'll go down in history!"

So after everything that happened, Rudolph, who was once bullied for being different, was now the most popular reindeer at the North Pole. Rudolph started from the bottom, and rose to the top. My boy went from chasing these reindeer trying to play with them, to having them follow him during the most important night of the year! RUDOLPH IS THE MAN! Moral of the story is this: who cares if you're different! Let the haters hate, because at the end of the day, you will be above them.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
