A Dedication To My Amazing Mother

There is nothing in this world that is quite as strong and enduring as a mother’s love. A mother is often your number one supporter in life, from the moment you’re born and every day that follows. She nourishes you in every way she can and will go to the ends of the earth just to see that you are happy and healthy. A mother offers her invaluable wisdom and advice when you need it most, even if you don’t realize that you do. I can gratefully say that I have a mother of my own who has been all this for me and so much more. That is why I wanted to take the time and dedicate this piece to her, even though a few loving words are the least I can do in comparison the person that she is. I think the world deserves to know a bit about this monumental woman that I have the privilege to call Mom.

My Mother is Loving

Not only does she have the perpetual love of a mother, but a love that encompasses everyone in her life. She is extremely kind-hearted, but also isn’t afraid to give you the right amount of tough love when you need it. She somehow perfectly balances the two, and I have no idea how she does it. I also don’t believe that she has a bitter bone in her body. Throughout the years, she has certainly taught me what it means to love someone, as well as what it’s like to be loved. For this I am eternally grateful.

She is a True Leader

She’s a take-charge kind of woman, and that is one of the attributes I love most about her. In a world where men often still call the shots when it comes to work and business, my mom has broken through such a barrier with astounding poise and grace. She has been at her current job for over a decade, and throughout the years she has ascended from a baseline position to executive director (a.k.a. the big boss.) My mom has completely turned a non-profit business into a successful, thriving, beautiful part of my hometown community. She is never afraid to speak her mind, and has certainly become one of the most respected local leaders of Central Ohio.

She is Hardworking

I truly think I owe a large part of my own work ethic to my mother. She has to be one of the most hard-working people I have ever known. In every aspect of her life she works hard, never stopping until the job is done and done right. Her job in particular demands a lot of her time and energy, and I am so inspired by the amount of heart she puts into it day in and day out. And the part that astounds me the most? She never complains.

She is Strong

My mother has been through alot in her life, yet she is still the strongest woman I know. Always so composed as she holds her head high, come hell or high water, she can survive anything. During the many losses and disappointments that life brings, my mom finds a way to push through and carry on. It’s one of the things I admire most about her.

She is Generous

My mother has the kind of heart that never stops giving. She has sacrificed so much over the years just to ensure that my brothers and I have a good and happy life. I can’t tell you how many dollars and hours of her time she has put forth to ensure my dreams become a reality. She has wholeheartedly supported my crazy passion for horses since day one. What’s more is she became my own personal groom and number one fan at every horse show I ever participated in. It was her hands that got stained with hoof polish so that my nice show clothes wouldn’t be ruined. It was her hair that was matted in dirt and fly spray so that I could focus on doing my best. It’s safe to say that she will go to any lengths for the people she loves.

She is Faithful

By far the most important value that my mother has helped instill in me is to always be faithful, particularly to God. Even during the hardest times, I could see that she never once gave up on her faith. In fact, I know that it is this faith that has gotten her through every twist and turn of life thus far. Not only is she faithful to God, but to everyone around her as well. She doesn’t give up on anyone, and for that I will always commend her.

If you take anything away from this, think about your own mother or someone similar in your life. We must never take for granted the wonderful people in our lives, because without them, there’s no way we would be where we are today. I know for a fact that if I become half the woman that my mother is, then I must be doing something right.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
