Poetry On Odyssey: Graduation Day
Kassandra Pacheco

We wait so long for our recognition of our hard work whether it is for school or our work lives,

And yet time flies by so quickly that it all comes in a wave, we made it.

Such an innovating feeling knowing this was all made possible by you.

Having the support from family and friends is all you need.

Graduation day is amongst us, it is coming sooner than you think.

The bittersweet feeling you are going to get when you walk out into that arena,

You take a glance at the crowd and for the slightest second you get teary eyed.

It feels surreal, this is finally happening.

In the crowd there a hundreds of families gathered to support their graduate,

And there they are, your people.

You see your mom at first glance and you know you would not be standing there without her immense support.

Your sisters, nephew and niece, father, and your family and friends.

The crowd slowly dims out and all you can see is them.

The ceremony is commencing.

As you walk across that stage, you’ve never felt feel so whole in a long time.

You sit back down and it hits you…

This is the beginning of my life.

Mom, thank you for being so selfless and allowing me to grow by your side,

And one day I hope to become even half of the woman you are.

Thank you for believing in me and pushing me to be the best version of myself.

This is it, I did it.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
