When you begin your freshman year of college you either have declared a major or are undecided. If you ask anyone who has graduated from college if they have changed their major during their college career, chances are they probably did at least once, if not multiple times. When I began my senior year of high school I had a specific major in mind, Political Science. After my freshman year of college began and over halfway through the semester, I decided political science was not for me.
In my Intro to Political Science class, we are learning what political science is all about. It is in this class that I realized that politics was not for me. While I do enjoy some aspects of political science, I don’t enjoy the bigger picture.
My career goal is to become a lawyer and someday own my own law practice. With political science, it is more centered around politics. I started thinking about other possible majors and what major would benefit my career goal more. I talked to people in the major I was considering and I ultimately decided on Criminal Justice with a minor in Homeland Security. Criminal Justice focuses on how the different aspects of the system from police officers to lawyers. I believe that by changing to my major, it will greatly benefit my goal of becoming a lawyer.
I know that everything happens for a reason and everything will work out. I can honestly say that I think my decision to change my major will be worth my time and will greatly benefit me more than political science would have.
My advice to anyone who is undecided or is thinking about changing your major, make sure you're making the right decision.Ask people for advice. Pray about it. It’s a big decision that will directly affect you and your entire college career and life
