Why I Decided To Become a Part of the Odyssey Online
Odyssey

Yes, it’s true. For the past month and a half, you have seen me post a brand new article each and every week. The topics have varied a lot week-by-week, for a variety of reasons. Firstly, because I’m still getting my footing. I’m balancing the obligation to make a somewhat compelling article along with major milestones occurring in my life, plus school, work, and all my day-to-day activities on top of that. Secondly, sometimes I just run out of time. Honestly, I’m actually writing this very article two hours before my deadline. Yet, here I am; typing the words into form for you guys to read. Lastly, I want to be able to touch on a variety of interesting subjects. Whether is was a motivational article or one that went into detail about troubling elements from my past, I want you guys to know exactly why you’ve been seeing The Odyssey pop up each Monday on my page.

I do it for fun. Writing is one of my passions. I’m more into creative writing, fiction-type literature than the format of what I do here. However, I have found it really enjoyable to sit down each week and put my passion to good use. None of you have probably read any fiction from me. I’m really shy about letting anyone view my craft. Plus, the topics may seem rather taboo to some. Nevertheless, I find joy in letting my thoughts run rampant and writing them down for others to see. It actually makes me proud of myself. I feel useful when I can write something that people relate to.

I do it for experience. Many of you know that I attend college and plan to get my B.A. in English. In the future, I hope to be a badass fiction writer that spends most of my time among the New York Times Best Seller’s List all while writing compelling works of literature from the comfort of my own home. Yet, I do sometimes wake up from my dreams of being a writer and see myself settling for something a bit more realistic. I do know that I want to pursue a career in literature, whether it be a publication, journalism, or anything else that comes into my life. Being a writer for the Odyssey will look really good on a resume one day in the future. Ideally, I would love to work for a publishing company. I could see myself editing peoples’ texts before they become published and hardbound. I love to read other people’s thoughts, just as you are reading mine.

I do it for YOU. There would be nothing to write if it were not for readers like you looking over what I have to say each week. You guys are what makes these words continue to flow from out of my soul. Trust me, I don’t write a list of my favorite things about Fall just to remind myself that I like Fall. I don’t write about my personal experiences and heartaches just for the hell of it. I do it because I hope that maybe you can relate or take something away from what I’ve said. Week after week, I wonder what I should write about. I figured that this week I would give you an explanation about what I’ve been doing. I also want to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read what I have to say. It means the world to me. New articles post every Monday. Check back next week to see what exciting topic I’m covering. You might just be surprised. ;)

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
