Can’t Decide On Your Major?
Charles Williams

So you are a Junior or Senior in high school, and everybody is starting to really push you to decide on what you do with your life. However, you can’t decide on what you want to do. DO NOT STRESS ABOUT IT! You do not have to decide on your major right away. As a matter of fact, I highly discourage picking your major before you have been in college for a little while.

Unless you have known what you wanted to major in for as long as you remember, there is no hurry to decide. As a college student, I am in my fourth year of being in college. However, I am no where near graduating like most fourth year students. Why? Because I have changed my major multiple times. Three to be exact. I spent my first two years as a Pre-Med student, my third year as and English Education student, and am now a Criminal Justice student. While I do wish that I hadn’t wasted so much time taking courses I no longer need, I am glad that I took the time to truly find my calling.

Part of the reason that I have had to change my major is because of the fact that I got pushed into choosing my major too early in life. As a Junior in high school, my friends and family were always asking what I wanted to major in. I finally chose one just so I had something to tell them. I chose wrong. And because of that I learned a lot about myself. Which is something that I believe everyone should get a chance to do before deciding on what they want to do with their lives.

When you finally get to college, take a wide variety of classes to see what interests you. Take a mixture of science, english, math, theater, music, communications, law, history and etc. depending on your interests. If I had taken a college chemistry class before beginning in pre-med I would have known, it wasn’t for me. But instead I didn’t. And you shouldn’t either!

So take classes that interest you, take the things that make you happy and see if you want to do it for the rest of your life. Don’t get pressured into choosing your major early unless you are 100% sure that it is what you want to do for the rest of your life. If you know what you want to do, then you don’t have to worry about it. But if you don’t then take the time to really discover your passion. But whatever you decide to do, make sure that you are going to enjoy it no matter what!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
