The Debate TRUMPS My Great Time
Robert Johnson

This past weekend, my church kicked off its celebration for our 100-year anniversary. The celebration was launched at El Caribe in a magnificent fashion. I was fortunate to sit with New York congressman Hakeem Jefferies, Walter T. Mosley (New York State Assembly), Laurie Cumbo (New York City Council), and public advocate Letitia James. We had great food, and a lot of dancing. Vickie Winans topped everything off. She was the guest vocalist, and she was fantastic. I really enjoyed myself, I had a great time. I was going to write all about it in detail, however, I couldn’t help myself. I tuned in watch the debate. I felt compelled, and to be honest, (and I am NOT ashamed to say), the build up for this event peaked my interest.

I am a big fan of politics. I am very interested in entering (local) politics one day myself. However, I did not turn in to watch the debate because I was interested in hearing what the candidates may have to say as far as an intended agenda in leading this country. I tuned into the debate because I was sure it would play out like a fight scene from the Real Housewives of Atlanta. I will say, so far into this debate, I am NOT disappointed. We all know about the now infamous tape that has been shown over and over, with Donald Trump running off at the mouth---to put it nicely. I said to myself, whoa! This is going to make this upcoming debate even more interesting. Then WikiLeaks blew up Hillary’s spot, releasing transcripts of hush hush meetings that has the potential to draw the color out of any face. I was revved up and ready to go, but…much to my delight, the pre-drama was just starting. Many Republicans jumped ship! There were Republican invitations rescinded, there were screaming matches on CNN (one had a woman screaming the word that begins with a P [same one Donald used] in order to make her point). It didn’t end there, with an allegation of rape. Juanita Broaddrick is alleging that Bill Clinton raped her, and Hillary bullied her because of it. My heart was now in over drive. I paced back and forth (between homework breaks), as I was anxious to watch. The final bombshell came as I was about to watch the debate, and find out that three women who allege sexual misconduct from Bill Clinton have been invited to the debate by Donald! As we say in our inner circle, LAWD HAVE MERCY! It is ON AND POPPIN'! I am speechless……

So again, watching the debate, I was not disappointed. It was very interesting, very entertaining. Hillary seem to almost fall into the bait trap set by Donald. Donald was dismissive and well, himself, even at one point appearing to pout like a five-year-old child crying unfair. I am praying, I am PRAYING to God, that this man is NOT elected! Please, vote vote VOTE VOTE VOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

Who could be a better friend than your own sister?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective.
