I, like many other Americans, watched the first 2016 presidential election. I, like many Americans, am worried for our country. Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are both trash candidates. Donald Trump is a racist, homophobic, xenophobic ass. Hillary is a disconnected, corrupt politician, void of any charisma or free thought.
But I'm not too worried, really. Presidents are always sh***y and ultimately a figurehead to take the blame that should be directed toward congress. Sure, I'm pretty worried about Donald Trump, a man who makes getting angry on Twitter, having access to nuclear weapons. The existence of nuclear weapons is terrifying enough when they're not in the hands of a bald orangutang. Hillary Clinton will put us at the whim of foreign powers, supporting shitty trade deals like Trans Pacific Partnership.
It doesn't really matter, though. I'll continue to exist (hopefully) and things will continue to be meaningless. Sure, the economy can take a big hit and devalue the American dollar. Hey, it happens. I'm in no control of the situation, and for that reason, I'll be damned if I worry about it.
The terrifying thing about Donald Trump is his supporters. He gives a very loud, very ugly voice to a formerly silent minority. His so-called leadership gives people the idea that racism is okay, that we must fight the progressives who believe that all men are equal. I will not support a Trump supporter. Anybody who honestly supports Trump is dumb at best and a racist homophobe at worst. Most likely, though, they are a putrid brew of both hate and ignorance.
Some would argue this is the perfect time to vote third party, citing low support for both candidates and the general disenfranchisement of both main parties. Gary Johnson has visibility unlike any previous third party candidate, yet he was still barred from the debate and he will most likely not win.
But in the end, Hillary and Trump are both a product of the American "democratic" system, bought out by big business in one way or another. I'll be voting for Harambe, because it doesn't really matter anyway.
