Dear Younger Self,

What I wish I could tell my younger self.

Dear Younger Self,
Samson Wheat

Dear younger self,

I have so much I wish I could tell you. I don’t even know where to begin, if I were being honest. So much has happened in your life and you’ve been through so much. You’re one of the strongest people you’ll ever know, and I know you don’t think that’s true – but trust me, it is.

So, here is a list of things I want you to know:

1: For each heartache you face, you come out stronger than you were before. Through it all you learn that you don’t need to settle, for anyone at any time, for any length of time. You don’t have to settle.

2: You’re going to lose friends, and even some family, but I want you to know that it’s okay. These people made their own choices and you end up being so much happier without them.

3: You’re going to have your heartbroken, a few times by the same person, but trust me when I say that you find yourself because of it.

4: The times you feel worthless, the times that you feel completely alone, I want you to know that you are never alone. You are loved. You are cared for. You are worth it.

5: Life is too short to stress about you pant size, okay? It just is.

6: Surprisingly enough, you will learn to love makeup and not give a single fuck about what other people might think about it.

7: This is a big one – not every parent is a parental figure and not every parental figure will be your parent. (Although, you do have a relationship with your father now and its great!)

8: Allow yourself to love yourself.

9: Loving someone and liking them are two different things. Happy news: you learn the difference.

10: Most importantly – you do it. You get through it. You create a life that you absolutely love and wouldn’t change for the world.

This is just a fraction of what I wish I could tell you. Life can be hard, but you learn how to get through it all. You have such a strong support group, and amazing family and a loving husband. You learn to approach each day with a smile and an eagerness to grow. You’re going to go such a long way.

With everlasting love,

Your Future self

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
