Dear Younger Me, It Will Get Better

"Even though life may seem hard at the moment and you feel like you cannot hold on you have to."

Dear Younger Me, It Will Get Better

If I could just go back in time and talk to my younger self there are quite a few things I would love to say. Mainly I want to be able to tell myself, things will eventually get better. Even though life may seem hard at the moment and you feel like you cannot hold on you have to. Dear younger me if I could give you any advice it would be the following.

First I would tell you life, well its not that bad. You actually have a lot going for you. You have gone so far in your schooling. Honestly, you have gone farther then I though you would make it. Not meaning that in a bad way just saying you don't do to good with stress. Oh yeah, you are also working at a great preschool. Even though life may seem unfair right now but things do get better.

Another thing I want you to know is you do gain your voice. Yes, most of your life you have been quiet and kind of just take what people have to throw at you. Well, it changes. You do eventually learn how to fight for yourself and that is something I so very much wish you knew how to do back then. You don't just let people run over you anymore no, you know what you need to do and say to stick up for yourself.

Oh younger me, one thing I hope you tale away is love yourself. Love who you are for God has made you this way. You finally get the answers and help you have been looking for with your depression. These things are not here to weaken you. They are here to make you stronger as a person. Don't worry about your weight and the clothes you wear. That stuff does not make you who you are. Believing in yourself and knowing God does not make mistakes makes you who you are.

Last thing I would love to be able to go back in time and tell myself is that it is okay to accept changes. In fact, learn to accept change. Life does not stop going because something changes. It keeps going. You keep going. All through your life you have millions of things change and if you let the little things that change effect you then life is going to be harder for you.

Life is not always going to be easy. You will not always get your way. You need to learn to accept the hardships in life. Just know that you will go far with your schooling. So far that you WILL become something. Work hard for what you want because it will not just be handed to you. Do not let others get you down. You are beautiful, smart, loving and caring. Changes happen, people come in go but just know you remain true to yourself the whole way. Dear younger me, you're going to be okay. Just hang on.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
