"It's too EARLY for this!"
"It's too COLD for this!"
"What are the chances we just 'forget' to do core today..?"
These have all been things I've uttered while at the gym. You know how it goes: you walk in feeling like a slow-motion scene from a movie, headphones blasting a compilation of only the most badass handpicked tracks, and you feel unstoppable. While we do feel like gods and goddess on earth and like nothing can bring us down while at the gym, at the end of the day, we're human. It's easy to lose motivation, especially on your own. To all the gym partners out there, here's a much overdue 'thank you.'
Through the sweat, tears, and occasional blood lost, thank you for always being there. You've been there to send us reminder "Gym. 10 AM. Leg day." texts, quickly followed by a "Don't you even DARE think about skipping or faking an injury" text seconds later. You've also been there to hear (and ignore) all of our complaints by making jokes to attempt to make the only pains we feel the ones from laughing.
Thank you for pushing us. You know what we're capable of doing and you're not afraid to ask us if that's all we've got. Sometimes we need a little tough love to accomplish things we never thought we could do (pull-ups?)
Thank you for being our biggest fan. You've seen (and smelt) us at our worst, but you've also seen us at our best. It's great to know that when we push ourselves and accomplish one more set or add one more weight, we have only the best of the best cheering us on every step of the way.
Thank you for being honest. You're not afraid to tell us that the new machine that just arrived is the worst thing you have ever experienced and will make us not be able to sit right for a week. And that we better get ready, because we're going to do it next.
Thank you for spotting us, even if it can't always be reciprocated. Even when our ego gets the best of us, you're always a step away to help us when we've bought a one-way ticket on the struggle bus.
But, above all, thank you for believing in us. You never let us give up, even when we think we can't make it. The goals we set help us strive for something that you show us can and will be accomplished, one day at a time. Thank you for being in our corner.
