Dear Teacher, Please Know

I want to be friends after class is over.

I know that you may have many students and that you are maybe not so good with names and remembering it all but I would like to invite you to coffee once our class is over. Yes, this may be corny and yes, you may have heard it before; but you are my favorite teacher.

There aren't many teachers like you who could make something that sounds so boring, be so interesting. Who knew that I'd be a fan of philosophy and theorists? Who knew that I'd appreciate something so much that was written so long ago? There aren't many teachers who care about the student's grades as much as you do too. You make sure that we are doing everything that we can do to do good, and when there is a problem that interferes with us doing the best we can you listen and help instead of scolding us and rejecting out work. You are fun and I am, to be honest, always excited to go to class and hear what you have to say about Marx, Foucault, Weber, and all those other theorists and contemporary social problems that we talk about. I really like your lectures!

There always seems to be one great teacher that stands out every semester for me, this past two I have had you and you have stood out once again among them all.

This may not be so relatable to other students. It could be if they stop and think about some teacher that has had a lasting impact on them. I've had a few in my years of learning. The first one was when I was in elementary school, the second one was when I was in middle school, the third one was in my first year of college and then there is you. You and one more I have had the pleasure of knowing for this last semester, but you the most.

If you are lucky like me (and if not I am so sorry) you have had at least one. One teacher you who appreciate and who you could see as a friend, mentor, or at least someone who is not just an authority figure who stands in the front of the room and talks and bores you to sleep. No, no. There is hopefully one individual who has stood out. One that you could see yourself drinking coffee with, maybe even a beer. One that you would like to catch up in a few years to see how her dog is doing and whether she and her husband have gone to Joshua Tree again. Wouldn't that be fun?

I know that there is one teacher, if we are all lucky, to have such a nice and lasting impact on a student's academic life. Maybe even on a student's life in general. I am lucky enough that I can say I have you. you have impacted my life in the best way possible. Thank you for making me want to be a better person and student.

Your lectures are forever in my heart.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
