A Letter To Taylor Swift

Dear Taylor Swift,

On behalf of the entire Virginia Tech Relay For Life team, I would like to cordially invite you and your mom to our 2016 Relay For Life event. If you haven’t heard, Virginia Tech has held the largest collegiate Relay For Life for the past seven years, raising over half a million dollars each year. Not only are we planning on keeping that title, but we’re also looking to make this year’s event the biggest it’s ever been, and we need your help.

Cancer is a word that resonates with everyone in a different way. But no matter what shape or form it takes, we all have one common goal: to beat it. As a member of the entertainment committee for Virginia Tech’s Relay For Life, I’m reaching out to you for many reasons – one being your personal connection with this awful disease in recent months.

Unfortunately, as students, we also have all already been affected by cancer, and each year from the start of the fall semester until a rainy day in April, we come together as a group of students looking to put an end to this terrible disease. For seven consecutive months, we dedicate ourselves and put our hearts and souls to this 12 hour event – planning, fundraising, recruiting students and companies for support, and reaching out to incredible artists like yourself. We are so dedicated, in fact, that you can expect to see multiple invitations sent to you throughout the year from Virginia Tech to be a part of our 2016 Relay For Life.

Why are we reaching out to you, might you ask? Because you’ve been affected by this horrible disease in more ways imaginable these past few years. Because you’ve shown the world how passionate you are about this cause. Because you can help us make a difference in our fight against cancer.

At Virginia Tech and in Blacksburg, Virginia, we pride ourselves in coming together as a community in the good times, the bad times, and any time in between. We are a community that comes together for the days when we all need a little up lifting. We are a community that comes together for the days when a celebration is in need. We are a community that comes together for the days when we just need to know that we have a community behind us.

Virginia Tech’s Relay For Life team would love for you and your mom to join our community this year on April 22nd, 2016, where the two of you will also be able to partake in the Survivor Lap during our event. We believe that together, we will bring more students out to Relay than ever before. Together, we will raise more money than ever before. Together, we will set the bar higher for each Relay to come. Together, we will show the world what just one school can achieve. Together, we will find a cure.

This is just the start of an incredible year towards our fight against cancer and our race in bringing you to Virginia Tech.

Until We Find a Cure,

A Hokie Seeking a Cancer-Free World

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
