Dear Tarleton State Class Of 2020
Taylor Green

Welcome to the family!

As a part of this incredible family there's some things you should know. For starters we are just that, a family. There's something about that first step you take onto our campus. Be it the friendly people who wave or the sweet gentlemen who always hold doors for not just ladies but anyone on campus. This will become something that over the years you'll learn to never take for granted. Stephenville in general has residents who are quick to help each other and be kind to one another. Tarleton is the same way. We're like our own little community that comes together in times of need.

It's one thing to bleed but a totally different thing to bleed purple. Tarleton stays alive by its spirit. This comes from students who truly bleed purple. Tarleton's students not only know its traditions but they truly love and believe in them. It's as simple as proudly wearing your purple on purple Thursday's, or singing along to Duck Camp songs.

Traditions. Traditions are kinda our thing. I seriously can't list them all out (that's a whole other article) but they mean so much to us. My biggest advice would be to give everything a try. Experience to the max your duck camp, T-week, founders week, and homecoming. TSU has so much history and tradition for you to soak up and learn. There's a lot to experience but if you give it your all you'll truly see how amazing this university is.

Connect with the people you first meet. The reason Tarleton sets up all of these different things is for you to be able to meet people. Whether you chose to admit it or not, coming to school can be scar. Either you don't know anyone or you only know a few people. TSU does everything they can to present you with the opportunity to meet new people to walk beside you through your new and exciting journey!

You have so many things to take pride in. For starters you get to attend Texas' best kept secret. Like I said before you're joining a humongous family. Your peers have been planning for the day you start your journey for quite sometime now and are excited to help you out along the way. If you haven't already you get to meet our incredible Momma T!

Lastly...the poo. I completely understand those of you who are totally freaked out by them. I was right there with you when I first met them. However let me tell ya, they grow on you. You start to take in the fact of just how cool they are. The fact that they are the oldest spirit organization in Texas and are actually pretty cool. Basically give them a shot and trust me, one day you'll be doing something crazy for a poo sign.

Have a great year and welcome class of 2020!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
