As spring semester quickly comes to a close, I can't help but think about what lies ahead this coming summer. However, with all of the hype for the fun that is to come, here are 12 personal reminders for how I want to live life the next three months.

Dear Summer Me,

1. Make more time for your parents and extended family.

While away at school throughout the year, you inevitably miss your family. If you find yourself missing them with your busy college schedule, you know that they have to be missing you too. This summer, vow to make ample time to catch up with family.

2. Show your online summer class what you're made of.

Having to take a summer class sucks, but just work hard for six more weeks in order to add another A to the mix and boost your GPA. Getting another hard class out of the way isn't so bad either. This summer, vow to kick your summer class' butt.

3. Work hard every day at work.

Enjoy the time back in one of your favorite places at home. Have fun with the co-workers who you have missed and catch up with your favorite customers. Always have a good attitude each and every workday because you know you're going to miss it just as soon as you're away again. This summer, vow to never wish away your time at work.

4. Enjoy your vacation.

Take some time to relax after a stressful semester full of hard work. Enjoy the time away, making memories, and exploring a new place with your family. This summer, vow to take a well-deserved break while appreciating one of the wonders of the world.

5. Be more spontaneous.

Not everything has to be planned out, which is something that many of us struggle with. Take risks, allow yourself to go on random adventures, and simply let yourself live this summer. This summer, vow to allow yourself to be more free spirited.

6. See your BFF from home as much as possible.

You're both finally back in your hometown after months of being states away and miles apart. Make time to see each other as much as you can. Of course, you'll both be working hard and trying to save up money for the coming school year, but don't ever let that be an excuse not to use the time that you have together. This summer, vow to value the time that you have in the same town (and sometimes state) as your BFF.

7. Visit your college friends.

Whether they come and stay at your house for the weekend or you go to their's, make time and put in the effort to see each other at least once throughout the summer. Three months is way too long to go without a squad reunion. This summer, vow to meet up with your friends from school someplace other than your college town.

8. Make time to sleep.

Getting adequate sleep is so important. We often don't sleep enough while we're away at school because homework and friends always take priority. This summer, vow to get used to better quality rest.

9. Don't spend all of your time watching season after season on Netflix.

Of course, watching Netflix is always entertaining and a great way to relax after a long day, but do more with your summer than just watching TV. Go outside and look up at the stars or have a bonfire and roast marshmallows. This summer, vow to limit your time spent watching Netflix.

10. Eat right and continue to workout.

You've worked hard to achieve your ideal bikini bod for the entire year, so don't let all of those sweaty workouts at the gym go to waste now. Whip up some of those healthy recipes that you've been pinning on Pinterest and stick to them! This summer, vow to maintain the body that you've worked hard for throughout the year.

11. Go to at least one concert.

So many concerts take place throughout the summer. Make it out to at least one. Grab a couple of friends and enjoy the time listening and watching live music. This summer, vow to attend at least one concert.

12. Save money.

As a college student, money is always tight. While still having fun this summer, save up some money so that you can comfortably purchase your textbooks for the fall semester. Also, make sure to have some extra cash to spend on random adventures with your friends once you're reunited. This summer, vow to save up some extra spending money.

Summer 2016 is bound to be a good one if you keep these 12 personal reminders in the back of your mind. I promise, it will be worth it!

Sincerely,

Me

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
