My schedule used to be packed. I was either working, doing school work, at rehearsal, or at a competition. That all came to an end when school ended. I have been out of school since March 13 and haven't worked since March 18. My life became a boring movie on repeat. Wake up, eat, school work, tik tok, sleep, and repeat.

During this time, it gave me time to figure about what I was thankful for and why. It also made me realize what I was missing .

Family

Since I was so busy with school and work, I never got time to sit down with my family. Band and work took over my weekdays and weekends. I was at school 8am-3:30pm then at band 6pm-9pm or at work 5pm-9:30pm. I was never home and it affected my relationship with my mom and sister. Now that there is a stay at home order I feel like I have reconnected with family.

To be completely honest, I could not remember the last time that my family and I sat down at the dinner table and had a meal together.

It felt good to sit and enjoy dinner with my family again. I got to talk about how my school work was going and got to listen to any work drama my mom needed to get off her chest. I got to actually talk to my sister and ask her about her day, which we never get to do.

I am thankful that I was able to reconnect with my family.

Teachers

Even with online schooling, my teachers have my back. They are helping students get through this rough time but also helping the students get the credits they need for graduation. All the online work might be easy busy work, but it will help you in the long run.

Teachers ask me everyday, ¨How are you feeling today¨, ¨Is there anything that I could help you with¨, and ¨Do you need someone to talk to?¨. They want to make sure that everything is OK and that you are getting the help you need.

I am thankful for my teachers because they continue to work even harder to make sure their students are doing well.

Essential Workers

There is no big shocker to this one. Everyone who is leaving home and working are either trying to save lives or help the community. They are putting their health at risk to make sure people who are at home trying to stay healthy. People who feel like it is ok to attack people wearing scrubs need to realize that those people are trying to save millions of lives. You should be saying thank you instead of insulting them.

I am thankful of essential workers because they are heroes.

Of course there are so many things that I am thankful for, but these are some of the things I think about everyday.

Letting someone know about what your thankful for, makes them think about what they are thankful for. Write a list of what you are thankful for and share it with your friends and family. Let people know that they are appreciated and that their hard work does not go unnoticed.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
