Dear Police Officer,
First of all, thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for doing what you do. Thank you for putting on your vest, uniform, belt, and courage every day to protect and serve your community whether its members like you or not. Thank you for boldly going where others won't after kissing your spouse and children goodbye each day knowing it might be for the last time. Thank you for having the self-control, patience, and determination to do your job despite being yelled at, cussed at, spit on, and disrespected. Thank you for standing guard, directing traffic, checking the dark corners, and for embracing whatever comes your way. Thank you for walking that thin blue line.
Secondly, I'm sorry. I am so sorry for what has been in the media, what has been said about you, and what has been said to you by people who just don't understand. I'm sorry that you're asked to give everything for people who hate you. I'm sorry that people hate you, really. I'm sorry that our society keeps you so busy. I'm sorry that people assume that you are out to get not help them. I'm sorry that you have seen the things you've seen and have to relive those moments from time to time. I'm just sorry for the world we live in and you boldly enter each day in uniform.
Also, I want you to know this: I love you. I love you because I have people in my family and family-friends who are in your shoes. I always move over when I see your car on the side of the road and drive carefully by it as if you are family because you are. You're someone's family, and your family to the officers in my life. I may not know you, but I want you to know that you are loved.
I want you to know something else. I pray for you. I pray for your safety. I pray for good judgement, wisdom, and patience for you. When I see your blue lights go whizzing down the road, I pray that you make it to your destination safely. I pray for your family that they will not worry. I pray for you to have courage and strength. I pray for your emotional, mental, and physical health. I pray that God uses you to bless people in their darkest hours. I pray that you wear the armor of God along with your Kevlar. I pray for your overall well-being. I pray that you find joy in the midst of the trials in your profession.
I hope this letter offers some encouragement in a world that is against you. I hope this reminds you that not everyone is against you, and some people really appreciate you. I hope this at least made you smile.
Thank you so much,
Anna
