Dear Older Generations

A message from a bothered millennial.

Dear Older Generations

Dear Old Generation,

Who am I referring to? The baby boomers and the generation X. I have one question, why are you guys afraid of change? No seriously, like what's wrong with it? I don't even know why I'm writing this article to you guys via internet, I probably should have sent a mass letter through the good old snail mail. This isn't to ridicule you guys for living in the time that you guys live, but more to inform you that times have changed!

I have recently started a new job working with a wide variety of people of all ages, races, and backgrounds, but one thing I have noticed is OLD PEOPLE ARE _______! I currently work as an IT Specialist for a great company, and my job usually includes me helping people fix their computer problems, which may I say, is an awesome job. Since I started I have realized that older people literally hate change! I wish I could count on my fingers how many times one of the people I have helped got flabbergasted because of the Windows 7 to Windows 10 change. Now I must admit, it took myself a little time to get adjusted to the new layout, but come on it isn't that hard.

A couple days ago a lady who I was helping with her computer told me, "You millennials don't do any work, just stay on your phone". But I'll have you know Debra, I can guarantee that WE in fact have it much harder than you did, "back in your day". For one, do you know how much it costs to get an education these days? Back in YOUR day it was practically free compared to what the average student pays TODAY. In fact, I know from experience that in order to stay in school and keep up with bills young people my age have to work NUMEROUS part time jobs to make ends meet. Not to mind you, these jobs are minimum wage and don't equal nearly as much to the price of living.

Yes, I understand that computers and phones are now taking over the world, but come on Gramps how do you expect the world to continue to progress? Just imagine if we DIDN'T progress, we'd still be getting from point A to B in horses and carriages. The point of progression is to make things better and easier to live day by day. Just imagine how'd life would be for you, Francis, if your parents nagged you about using your new typewriter.

The problem with the older generation is they are stuck in the past. It's 2017, we've come a long way since the 1920s and with all the changes that have happened, some mindsets haven't. Some old folks still live in the past which is quite frustrating for the younger generation who have to constantly listen to how screwed up the world is now. And maybe today isn't the best, but we now live in a world where segregation is illegal, ALL marriage is legal, and I can use my best friend, Google to find out information.

Moral of the story here is, yes times have changed. But without change there'd be no progress. Yes Bill and Mary, you might have had some rough times back in your days. But this generation also faces issues that are JUST as rough, they're just different issues. So if you one of you old heads ever stumble across this article, just think about how the world would be without some of the innovations we have today.

"Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything." - George Bernard Shaw

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
