Dear My Person

Have I ever told you how much I loved you?

Dear My Person
Olivia Grace Thomas

Dear my person:

When God placed you in my life, He gave me immeasurable joy. He gave me memories that I'll cherish forever. He gave me all this through you. Thinking back, I don't remember life without you, even though we've been best friends six years this month! It's so strange to think there was a time in life that you weren't my best friend.

You are my person. Owen on Grey's Anatomy once said "I don't have to say a word. She just looks at me and sees who I am and how I feel and accepts it. She doesn't try to change it or wants to change it. That person. There's a billion people but I imagine there's only one of her." and while he was definitely talking about Cristina Yang, it applies to us.

Thank you for all the late night sonic runs at ten o'clock after I got off work. Thank you for all the Casa dates and basically always being down to get food, no matter what time it is, and thanks for never letting me eat alone. Even when we were 71 miles away from each other due to college, you'd still FaceTime while I was eating somewhere on campus so I didn't have to be alone.

Thank you for all the adventures. From riding to Guntersville while stuffing our faces with McDonald's and blaring One Direction and Fifth Harmony to calling our parents so we could leave prom early and go bowling, you've always been down for any crazy idea I come up with. Thank you most of all for telling me no to some of them and keeping me out of serious trouble. You're the real MVP.

Thank you for all the ridiculous amounts of love you've shown me. You stood by my side as we graduated high school. You were there for me when my dad had some major health problems going on. You have always loved and accepted me for me, and you've never tried to change me, unless it's my sassy attitude, which we all know will probably never change. (But hey, at least you tried, right?)

Thank you for all the years full of love and laughter and memory making. Thank you for always standing by my side, so I never had to stand alone. Thank you for all the many nights of comfort and prayers and for always letting me know I have someone who cares and loves me, no matter what. Thank you for always aggressively believing in me, defending me, and thinking that I deserved the world.

"A friend loves at all times.." -Proverbs 17:17

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
