Dear Future Daughter,
This letter is to you on one of those rainy days when you don't feel beautiful or good enough. This letter is to you on the days when you feel like you have lost your touch. This letter is to you when you are looking through your closet with tears in your eyes wondering why you don't feel comfortable or pretty in your own clothes. This letter is to you when you are curled up in your bed wondering why you aren't as pretty as the girls on the screen and magazine. This letter is to you when you don't feel thin enough, because you are not a size two.
Let me stop you right there and tell you that you are beautiful in each and every moment of your life. You are just as beautiful without makeup on as you are with makeup on. You are just as beautiful sweating in the gym as you are after a spa day. You are just as beautiful in a messy bun as you are with your hair straight. You are just as beautiful when you eat an entire pizza as you are when you eat a salad. You are just as beautiful in your baggy shirt and sweatpants as you are in your prom dress. You are just as beautiful as everyone you compare yourself to.
But daughter of mine, I'm going to tell you something that took your mother a long time to learn. You are beautiful not because of what you look like on the outside but you are beautiful because of what you have on the inside. Let your wonderful personality be what makes you beautiful. Let your kind heart, kind words, and kind actions shine through more than anything on the outside ever will. Let your humble and alluring character show everyone what really matters. Let your smile be the most beautiful curve on your body. That above all is the definition of beauty.
There will be times where society sets the standards for beauty. And when those times come you need to remind yourself that your beauty comes from within you, and it is not given to you by society. There will be times where society tells you what is considered beautiful and what is not considered beautiful. That anything above a size two and a small is not beautiful. And when those times come you need to remind yourself as long as you feel comfortable and beautiful in your own skin than everybody else's opinion should not matter.
You are beautiful every second of everyday and don't you ever let yourself think differently.
“There is nothing more rare, nor more beautiful than a woman being unapologetically herself; comfortable in her perfect imperfection. To me, that is the true essence of beauty.”
All of my love,
Your Future Mom
