You're the president of the United States of America. There. I said it. I addressed the elephant in the room (get it, cause you're a republican).
I have to admit it, the words stung a little coming out. Not because I think you're a little ignorant at times or because I think you're a bit unfit to be president, but because this is real.
What? How did we, as a country, let it get this far?
I remember when you first announced that you were going to run for president, I honestly thought you were just messing around. Turns out, you weren't. It happened. You won.
And I just have a few things to say to you.
First off, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry that we, as a country, think bringing up your wrong-doings from 30 years ago is okay. I'm sorry that we think we can take advantage of your position in the public eye and use it against you. I'm sorry that we, as a country, don't understand that people make mistakes. That we, as a country, don't understand that you are human, just like we are. I'm sure if every single human being alive were put in the position you are in, they would say a few things they regret saying, too. However, that doesn't justify a lot of your actions. As president, you do not deserve a right of passage or a get out of jail free card. Yes, you are human, but that doesn't mean you can treat others like they are not.
I know that you will probably never see this. I know that people will disagree with my stance. I know that I, an 18-year-old college student, am not a master of politics or even somewhat knowledgeable on what makes a country run. However, I do know that putting people down and shaming others will never get you anywhere. I know that this country needs hope, which so far, I'm not too convinced you have given very much of. But I believe in second chances, and I am willing to give you one. I will never fear the future because I know who holds it, and it's not you, Donald Trump.
So I wish you luck and, yeah, don't screw this up.
