Dear Mr. Trump, I Hope You Shock the Nation

I hope you shock the nation.

Dear Mr. Trump, I Hope You Shock the Nation
Inside Gov

I sincerely do. I hope you shock the world. This has nothing to do with whether I personally believe in your plans or if I, like many others, doubt your ability to be a successful leader. But I hope you prove to be better than you are and what others see you to be.

Have Your Voice Heard: Become an Odyssey Creator

There's a lot of questions circulating through many of us, but I think too many of us are too angry, too afraid to speak them. So I'll do it. Here are 3 points we wonder as we approach January 20th and beyond.

1. Will you follow through?

You have spoken about multiple plans and philosophies you intend to work on while in office. Some are logical, some were just crazy at first hearing. What we want to know is will you follow through on everything you said you wanted to do?

We question this because we don't really know any steps you plan on taking to reach these initiatives. You told us about step thirteen, and we are currently standing at step one, but we have no idea what or how you plan on navigating through steps two through twelve.

2. How do you want others to see you?

You've seen it yourselves, people are finding ways to bash you. You're outspoken, you're honest. you're bold. All seemingly good qualities, but people look at you as deceiving, mischievous, and rude. I'm wondering how you will choose to present yourself once you're officially in office. Will you stay the same, or will this new level of power change you? And if you change (and we know you will in some way), will you lean more towards the positive side of those characteristics, or the negative?

How do you want people to view your time in office? Do you want to be seen as approachable, or scary? Do you want to be friendly, or intimidating (in situations where being intimidating isn't necessary, like with children or veterans)?

It's not just what you do in office, it's how you act in office that you will be remembered for. It's up to you to decide how you want to be remembered.

3. Will you look out for everyone?

That's the question on so many peoples' minds. Most are jumping to conclusions and saying no you won't. Others say don't be ridiculous of course he will. But that's not something we know for sure. Only you know what you plan on doing; it's up to us to hope you will do good.

Will you look out for the poor, the rich, and the middle class? Will you look out for corporations and small businesses? Will you look out for your citizens on American soil and on overseas lands? Will you look out for minority groups, for law enforcement, for the health and well being of your citizens?

Or will you make choices that specifically leave out one or more of what I said above?

People have mixed reviews about Obama's accomplishments in office, regardless of what statistics they find. But America can continue to grow under your authority. As long as you choose to take it in an upward direction, and not pull us down.

People are expecting you to fail, Mr. Trump. People expect you to be the worst president we have ever had. But if you make choices that benefit this nation, and lead us in a positive manner, you will truly shock the nation and the world.

So, Mr. Trump, I guess all we can do now is wait and see if you make America great again.

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
