An Open Letter To My Parents

Dear mommy and daddy,

I know I may not show it all the time, but I am truly thankful for the two of you. I love you both more than words can describe and the thought of losing either one of you tears me apart.

I want to say thank you. Thank you for everything. Thank you for always supporting me no matter what. Thank you for trusting me to make my own decisions and not chastising me when I make mistakes instead, reminding me that life goes on and all I can do is learn from those mistakes.

Thank you for being open minded to my relationships with people. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve had people ask me “Your parents don’t care if you date or end up married to someone outside your culture?” And then I respond with how you guys only want me to be happy with someone who is a good human being regardless of where they come from, what race they are, or even if they don’t share our religion.

Thank you for always reminding us (all of your children) the importance of equality between man and woman. For teaching us the importance of equality of all mankind period.

Thank you for the financial support you’ve given me to get through college so I don’t have to struggle the same way you did. For stressing the importance of an education and hard work.

Thank you for teaching me how important it is to be cultured and to be accepting of others.

Thank you for giving me a roof over my head, food on the table, clothes to wear, access to a Doctor, and everything you’ve provided me with growing up and continue supporting me with until this day.

Thank you for respecting me as a young adult and taking my thoughts and opinions seriously.

Thank you for putting up with me for almost 23 years and giving me unconditional love that no one else on the planet would give me.

No matter how old I am, I will always need you.

Thank you for everything.

I love you.

Love,

Your Daughter
