Dear Mom

An open letter to my mom

Dear Mom

Dear mom,

Thank you. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for always being there when I needed someone the most. Thank you for always being my biggest cheerleader. Thank you for everything.

Thank you for not getting annoyed, but feeling happy for the awful screeching coming from my room while trying to learn a different instrument. Or the constant singing coming from my room 24/7.

We may butt heads once and awhile but, you've always been my rock, and my strongest support system. I appreciate you so much. Everything you have done for me was out of love and compassion to help me become more prepared for the real world.

You've always been my constant supporter, whether my decision was a wise decision or not. You've always supported me with all my music programs and performances not matter how early they were or how long they would take. You have also supported my journalism path through out high school and during my college years.

I love coming home and talking to you. Our conversations are sometimes overwhelming but I need it to sick in, or were talking about life in general. No matter if the talk is short or long it's so meaningful because we can just talk to each other, or even sing songs on the radio like no ones listening.

Music is such a huge part of our lives. We both can sing to just about anything that comes on the radio. Yeah we may annoy the rest of the family but we enjoy being our true selves.

I cherish our relationship so much. Everyone says that their mom is their best friend, and I couldn't agree more. You and I are a lot a like. We both have the same vision for several things, whether it's hanging things around the house, or how want to change the way we do family dinners. We just know where we are weak and we pick up where the other left off. It's a team effort.

I would be so lost without you as my best friend. You know exactly what to say when I'm down. You know what to do when I'm having to make a big decision. You've alway been my rock, and my solid ground. I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for me.

Considering how close we are shows that we know what each other is feeling even if we aren't together. We know when we need to send a text to either check up on each other or just to say a friendly hello. We know just exactly when its needed the most, for good or bad we always understand each other.

Thank you mom. Thank you for everything you do. You've done so much for me as I have been going through my journey called life.

I love you forever and a day.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
