Dear Mom: You're An Angel

I love you to the ends of the world and back.

Dear Mom: You're An Angel
Brandi Wise

In the beautiful new ballad, "Supermarket Flowers", off of Ed Sheeran's new album, Divide, he puts exquisitely, "You [are] an angel in the shape of my mom, when I fell down, you'd be there holding me up."

Dear Mom: I know it's commonly noted in the job description of "mother" that you're supposed to be there for your child, but you have gone above and beyond that call of duty. When I hurt, you hurt. When I cry, you lift me up. When I'm in the happiest of highs, you're my biggest cheerleader. What I would give to have others feel the support you've always given me. I'd be jealous of your love if I wasn't your daughter.

Dear Mom: I am so sorry I am the biggest pain in your day sometimes. I apologize for any time I make you mad or make you shake your head in disbelief at some of the things I say and do. I strive to be the best of myself, and I appreciate you coaching me through the times I've made some of the craziest mistakes. You've loved me through it all. How you've dealt with me, I have no idea.

Dear Mom: You are such a strong woman. What you have been through in the past, and how you're still standing and thriving, I have no idea how you can do it all and more. I'd be exhausted if I were you. I want to be you. I want your work ethic. I want your positive outlooks on life. I want all the life advice you have stored in my head. Teach me everything you can.

Dear Mom: Speaking of advice, how do you always know the right things to say? I wouldn't have been able to get through school breakdowns, relationship issues, and everything in between if it hadn't been for you. Thank you for telling me all the hard truths I needed to hear. Thank you for always telling me to work for the best, and to not stop until I get to that point in life. And thank you for always encouraging me in those dark and difficult places I've been in.

Dear Mom: I will always be here for you. It's the very least I could do after all these years. In a quote from Harry Potter,

Harry Potter: "You'll stay with me?"
James Potter: "Until the very end."

And I will follow those words. I'm here for you until the very end. I will always be your biggest cheerleader. I will say something funny and stupid to lift up your spirits. I'll go to dinner with you any time that you want. I love you to the ends of the world and back. You're my most favorite person in this world.

Dear Mom: You're an angel.

Love,

Your daughter

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
