Dear Long Distance Best Friend

I miss you, how have you been?

Dear long distance best friend,

I miss you. I can't believe it's been so long since we've seen each other! The days fly by and suddenly it's been months or years since we've seen each other and I sit here baffled at how I've made it without you for so long.

We have gone through so much together: heartbreak, moves, career changes, school, new pets, new cars, everything. Living day to day without seeing you has become the norm and I find myself thinking about running and telling you about some new gossip I've heard but then I remember how far apart we are. It's hard being away and constantly busy. I feel like we never talk anymore.

But know this, no matter how far you or I go, no matter how long it has been since I've seen your gorgeous smiling face, know that I am here. I am still the same person you know and love. I still support you in everything you do, and I am sitting in the background cheering you on! I am looking forward to hearing of your accomplishments, new loves, new jobs or anything in between. I am still your best friend, no matter what happens in our own lives.

I promise to call on your birthday and to send a card for Christmas, I promise to be there for all of the big events like weddings or graduations, and I promise to be by your side if anything ever happens. I will let you down every now and again, but that doesn't mean I don't love you, or that you aren't my best friend anymore. It simply means I am human and do dumb things every once in a while. I hope you know that to the greatest extent I can reach, I will drop everything for you if you really need it.

I promise to plan crazy vacations with you just to get away and be together for once. I promise our children will grow up as cousins, hopefully growing bonds as strong as ours. I promise to involve you in all of my major life decisions, even if it's just to have you help me make up my mind. I want you to be a part of even the smallest, mundane tasks, even though you are so far away.

I want to always be able to pick up where we left off, whether it be over coffee on your tailgate, or over cheesecake after dinner. Whether it's singing our favorites in the car, or laughing at stupid jokes together on the couch, I never want to lose your humor and genuine company. I hope we can always be there for each other, even when we're old and gross.

Lastly, thank you. Thank you for the years of companionship, for years of growth, support, love, and laughter. Thank you for the surprise visits, for the surprise gifts, and for just being you. Thank you for being my best friend. Thank you for keeping in touch.

Loving you despite the distance,

Your Best Friend.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
