Dear Long Distance Best Friend

"PS, You better miss me as much as I miss you."

Dear Long Distance Best Friend

College can be hard, especially when it separates you from your person. (or in my case, my people). For the first time in years, you will not have the same people to go to the movies with you to see that kid's movie you've been dying to see or go on spontaneous dinner dates with. Your shotgun rider's house isn't down the street anymore, it's three hours away.

Hey best friend, as hard as I know this is gonna be, I know our friendship is strong enough for us to go weeks at a time without seeing each other. Here are my promises to you.

12. I promise there is always room in my dorm room for you to come visit.

I have a futon with your name on it. It doesn't matter if you're coming up for a game day or you're just really tired of everyone in your classes lately. You don't even have to tell me you're coming. If you text me and say "I'm about to walk into your building", I'll meet you at the door.

11. I promise that you will continue to pick out my outfits for me.

Let's face it, I cannot get ready for a date, meeting my grandma for lunch, or even going to church without you. You will continue to get plenty of text and snapchats that say "Should I wear this?" Or "What looks better?" Every time I go shopping, or open my teeny tiny dorm closet, you will be with me. There are far too many events in college for me to have to pick out all of my outfits alone.

10. I promise to think of you every time I go to Waffle House.

Maybe I'll even order a chocolate chip waffle instead of a regular one, just because it reminds me of you.

9. I promise to sing our songs at the top of my lungs and let them play all the way through on the radio.

No matter how old the song gets, no matter how overplayed it is. (Long live Trap Queen and a bunch of other rap songs we think we know the words to but in reality probably don't)

8. I promise to make it home some weekends just for Sunday traditions.

I don't know what I will do without our fried chicken and mac and cheese. There is truly nothing better than friendships built on Jesus and food. So don't worry, I'll be back for Bread Day.

7. I promise to text you screenshots of all the drama that I know about as soon as I find out.

Even if you don't know the people, you will still see every Twitter fight or snarky Instagram comment. And it's your job to keep me updated with everything where YOU are. You know how nosy I am.

6. I promise to answer your FaceTimes and phone calls.

If my phone lights up and it's your name, I will answer. (As long as its between the hours of 9 am-11 pm and I'm not taking a test or something) And you know how much I hate talking on the phone and how much I like to ignore people and then claim I never saw the call, so this is a big promise for me.

5. I promise I will post TBT pictures of us when I miss you.

I will unearth every picture from football games, every beach picture, and every embarrassing selfie. Even through our awkward glasses years. I won't let the Internet forget about our friendship, or how cute we looked together at prom.

4. I promise I won't stop telling you all of my boy drama and I won't stop listening to yours.

This includes every fight, sweet message, break up, get together, and everything in between. You'll know everything, and you'll still be a part of typing out my messages when I can't put my feelings into words, but somehow you can. So, get ready for the screenshots.

3. I promise you will always hold a place in my home.

Whether I'm there or not, my mom loves you. You're basically one of her daughters and she'll start to miss you too. And I'll only get a little jealous if y'all go to lunch without me a couple times.

2. I promise you will not be replaced.

Not by my future classmates or future sisters or any girl on my hall. I will make new friends and you will too, but you will always have a special place in my heart. While we will both be making new memories with new people, nothing will be able to replace the memories I have with you.

1. I promise I will never forget you.

No matter what, this is my promise to you. Our memories will always be etched into my mind and my heart. Every laugh, every tear, every gossip session and movie night...I will carry them with me.

My best friend, my person, all of my "persons": I will miss you all so very much. Y'all hold half of my heart, and it's going to be hard to function with my two halves split. I promise these things and so many more. Distance will not separate us, it will only make us stronger.

LDBF, I love you so incredibly much.

Ps. You better miss me as much as I miss you.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
