Dear Kevin Hines

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift, that is why they call it the present.

Be. Here. Tomorrow! Be. Here. Tomorrow! Be. Here. Tomorrow! We all chanted at the top of our lungs with linked arms, at the end of Kevin Hines talk. To see everyone in that auditorium come together, setting aside all that divides us and focusing on what connects us was truly magical.

Dear Kevin Hines,
Thank you. Thank you for sharing your story of hope and bravery. Your story has helped me and millions of others through so much. I discovered your story after my mom died by suicide and again last year when I was given a copy of your book.

After a long and hard talk with one of my old counselor’s, she grabbed a book off and handed it to me. She said, “I know you are in a dark place right now but if you can do just one thing I want it to be reading this book. I don’t care how long it takes you to finish, just read it, please.” I took the book and read it. On the nights when sleep was absent, I would pick up the book and try to take the words of hope and healing to heart.
You inspire me to share my story. The courage it takes to speak out about the struggles you have faced is hard enough, lead alone the ones you are still facing. You continue to speak out even when you are struggling yourself because you know the power of vulnerability and how much showing yours demons and struggles can help someone else’s.

You have showed me it is okay to ask for help, no matter how much my brain or anyone else is telling me to silence my pain.

Seeing your talk last week was an experience I will never forget and I will hold the words you said close to my heart. During your talk, my emotions ranged from crying to laughing so hard I could barely breathe.

It me realize I could hold on for at least another day. The two simple words, thank you could never fully express how grateful I am for that.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
