Dear Kentucky Winter

Fall was disappointing; Don't be disappointing

Dear Kentucky Winter,

I was really disappointed with Kentucky Autumn this year. I didn't get to see the leaves turn bright red and brown and yellow this year. I didn't get to feel a smooth transition from warmer temperatures to cooler temperatures. I didn't get to slowly stockpile on my favorite sweaters and fuzzy socks or anything of the nature.

No - I got to experience seventy degrees all the way up to November. I got to keep wearing my summer clothing because it was far too warm for my autumn and winter clothing. I got to see all of the leaves fall off of all of the trees in a week's time. We had a cold snap from the summer-like weather to nearly winter-like weather.

Kentucky didn't get to experience autumn.

Kentucky Winter, I'm begging you to give us something more than you gave us last year! I'm begging for a cold snap that lasts for three months. I'm begging for snow. I'm begging for overcast skies. I'm begging you to let me where my fuzzy socks and winter boots whenever I go out.

Please snow on Christmas.

Please give me a foot of snow.

Please let snow days happen.

Let putting up my tree be something I enjoy.

Because I don't know about anyone else, but I was severely disappointed in the lack of charisma from Kentucky Autumn. Kentucky Summer was far too enthusiastic for my taste, and I miss Kentucky Spring like no other. I want to look outside and scream,"IT'S SNOWING!" like a little kid again.

I'm an adult, now, and I don't have too many luxuries in life. Seeing large snowflakes fall to the ground and actually stick to the ground would bring so much joy into my life.

So, Kentucky Winter, I'm asking you to come visit us and stay a while.

Sincerely,

Someone who is dreaming of a white Christmas

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?
