Dear Incoming College Freshman

Dear Incoming College Freshman,

Congratulations! In about a month or so you will embark on your next big journey. College. College is truly such an exciting time, and the time leading up to the start of college is exciting too. It's full of dorm shopping and trying to make your room into your ideal living space, or as ideal as a small room shared with one person can be!

While dorm shopping and planning the room layout with your roommate is indeed quite fun, your time spent at home before college is significant in other ways as well. This may be your last summer around all your friends from home. Once your years of college begin, it seems that summers will not be the same. Some of your hometown friends may be studying abroad, doing a summer internship, or living in their college town.

It is sad to think about how things may change by the time you are done with your freshman year; however, choose to spend time with the people you love and cherish. In times where you miss them while at school, you will be so thankful to have spent as much time with them while you were at home.

Once you arrive at college, you will continue to experience change. Some of this change will likely not be anything you saw coming. You may be deciding to switch your major to a field not in any way related to what you had envisioned yourself doing before. This is okay. Be thankful to have the opportunity to come to college and be exposed to a variety of things.

Enjoy meeting new people. You're bound to make new friends, and you never know where your next great friendship will come from. It could be from anywhere whether that is in your dorm or in a class or simply somewhere else. The friendships you make will make being away from home easier. Though don't forget to check in on your family back home and friends in other places. Just because you see them less does not make your relationship with them any less significant.

Study hard. Don't get discouraged when things don't go as planned, and finally, appreciate your time in college and all the experiences it brings you.

Sincerely,

A Former Freshman

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!

There is nothing quite like family.

Family is kinda like that one ex that you always find yourself running back to (except without all the regret and the angsty breakup texts that come along with it).

No matter how long your class is, there's always time for the mind to wander. Much like taking a shower or trying to fall asleep, sitting in a classroom can be a time when you get some of your best ideas. But, more than likely, you're probably just trying to mentally cope with listening to a boring lecturer drone on and on. Perhaps some of the following Aristotle-esque thoughts have popped into your head during class.

The Belchers hold the key to a better life.

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.
