Dear High School Junior,

You're about to enter your senior year of high school, and you couldn't be more excited about all of the crazy things that are about to occur in your life. Less homework, committing to college, prom, senior parties and so many other crazy things that we all look forward to when going into senior year. But when I tell you it goes by quickly, it really does. Before you know it, it’s April and you’re trying to figure out where all of that time went.

We were all told that senior year was going to be super easy; less homework, more freedom, less nagging teaching, but the truth is you’re still in school. Some teachers will stop caring as much if you’re lucky, and others won’t. You’ll still have to do homework and you’ll still have to take tests. It sucks but let me tell you, you’ll make it through. I promise. When you need help, there is nothing wrong with going to your teachers and asking for it. Just because you are going to be a senior doesn’t mean you are expected to know and understand everything. The help is there, and it’s just up to you how often you take advantage of it.

But senior year is not all that bad. There are so many exciting activities that you will get to take part in. Senior year parties have something different about them that other years did not. You feel so much closer to the people around you because you realize it’s actually your last year together. Everyone starts to come together and everyone is included because what's the point in starting drama now when there's only a few months left of high school?

Prom is coming up too and that's exciting and nerve-wracking all at once. Picking out your dress, making sure other people don't pick the same one as you, making hair and nail appointments, dress fittings and alterations, finding a date––it's so much to handle in such a short period of time. But it's worth it. It'll be the best night of your life, it's one of your last chances to celebrate with your grade as a whole, and you get to dress up in your best attire for this magical night. And once it's all over, you'll look back and realize how amazing of a time you had.

Senior year is going to be one of the best years of your life. It's going to go by so quickly and you're going to have an amazing time. Right now you want to move out and go to college to be living on your own but don't rush it. When it's all over you are going to wish you had it back and that you could do it all over again. So enjoy your senior year. It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience this moment in time. Make the most of it.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
