They say high school is supposed to be the best four years of your life! Right?! Wrong. Going into high school, everyone makes it out to be such an awesome time. A place where you meet your best friends and finally start to find your place and where you belong. Unfortunately, for some of us that is not the case. If you guys are anything like me, high school was not exactly “cream of the crop.” In fact, if I wasn’t required to go, I would have loved to just skip it all together. It’s not that I wasn’t liked, or I was made fun of. I was a cheerleader. I had a good group of friends. But for some reason I just never felt like it was where I belonged. And you know what, that is okay. High school only lasts four years. That’s right, I said FOUR YEARS! It’s not your whole life like people make it out to be. Once you get out, you realize how big the world really is. There is so much to explore.
I am here to tell you that everything gets better. I have been in College for three months, and I have already found some better friends than I ever could have imagined. I already feel more welcomed by these strangers from all over the country than I did by the 157 people who I went to school with from Third Grade to Senior Year. I am able to go out and be myself because I nobody has a certain expectation of what I should be like in college. Going to a school with 20,000 kids instead of 700, there are so many people that you can be yourself and not have to worry about fitting in. College has a place for everyone. When you hear people say “college is where you will find your best friends,” they really are not kidding. College has this weird way of bring out the best of you, and allowing you to really be you.
So, take it from someone who has been in your shoes, things get better. You will find those people who will be by your side for the rest of your life. You will find those friends that you will spend nearly every day with because, I mean really, what’s the fun in being apart? Soon will you realize that you are not stuck in high school forever.
