An Open Letter To Future Hannah

Everything is going to be just fine.

An Open Letter To Future Hannah

This is a letter to my future self that is being written in the library where I should be focusing on studying for the quiz I have in an hour, but instead, I am taking selfies with different snap filters. This may apply in a week, or when I graduate and am searching for the perfect job, but who knows. So without further ado, here it is.

Dear Future Hannah,

It will all work out. I know you are stressing over so many different things right now, but don't worry. Just stay calm. You are enjoying the classes you are taking, and you only have one semester left in college to sign up for classes. You chose a major you adore, and there is no point to question it all.

I know you just found out you still have 21 credits, and you still have no idea how to manage that in one more semester. Know that it will all work out. You're working on creating a future you will love, so honestly, it's worth it to have a hard life for a second.

Focus. Focus only on what is important. I know you're thinking, "Why didn't I just do marketing... you know there are lots of jobs in marketing." Stop thinking that because you would not be happy working in a business office your whole life. Remember that you chose journalism because you like the idea of making ads for Coach bags, or perfume brands like Chanel. Remember that maybe instead of doing that, you like writing. You are passionate about writing, and you think it'd be cool to be an editor for a huge magazine.

What's important is that you are on the right track to getting there. I know it's hard when you're currently looking for a job in Nebraska, and thinking about how you might be moving to California in a couple years or so. You'll find something here, and you'll be able to get something there.

Senior year is supposed to be fun... not an abundance of stress. So stop freaking out about all the little things, and simply just look at the bigger picture. You have a fun life right now, so enjoy it. You have passion and are working towards the future you want, so keep at it.

My life motto lately has been "It's fine. Everything is fine."

However, I think Bob Marley says it better, "Don't worry about a thing, 'cause every little thing gonna be alright."

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
