Dear Future Little

You're already cooler than me.

Dear Future Little

Little,

Right now you are nothing but a thought, but someday, beyond all the mysteries and excitement of recruitment and bid day, Big-Little Reveal will finally arrive. You will get all of the t-shirts I never wore from the year before (so don’t worry about having nothing with your letters on it, I got you), not to mention you have permission to raid my closet daily, so your wardrobe will basically double.

I’m sorry that I’m not very crafty in advance, but I will try my best. I really do apologize, I’m awful. I once super glued my fingers together. Don’t worry, I will make up for it in other ways. If you need help decorating your dorm, or need a gym/froyo/library buddy, I will always be there for you. If you want to go out, I will throw on my party pants and get my butt out of the door. If you want to stay in for a movie night and eat a large pizza each, I will certainly never turn that down. If you want to go on a hike and get away from campus, I’ll go adventuring with you.

You should know that I am very close with my best friend and amazing biggy along with my grand-big and great grand-big, so we will all welcome you with open arms into our big family. All of us will go with you to your favorite frat (even if its not our favorite) and talk you up to everyone we know. Or we will just stand on the sidelines and watch like proud mamas as you introduce us to all of your (way cooler than us) friends. You will never have to dance at a party (or just in your dorm room) alone, when you want to twerk it out, I’ll be there to spot you. Hopefully you like to dance, because your big really likes to get down and funky.

But be prepared for me to drag you to sushi and or Chipotle weekly. Oh, that’s another thing you’ll never have to do alone; I love to eat. I just want you to remember that freshman year is a transition year for everyone, but having a fabulous big makes the year breeze by. I hope to make your freshman year your best one yet.

So when you get asked to your first weekender and have to make your first cooler, I will be there to paint and shop and paint some more. When you have to find a date for your first date dash, I’ll rescue you if he ends up being creepy. In the beginning, you’ll think you need me to survive, and maybe during syllabus week that may be true, but eventually you will be able to handle freshman year on your own.

But don’t worry; I won’t just disappear from your life after freshman year. I promise to be there for you throughout your life; if you ever feel lost, look to your big! Being big and little is one of the most exciting and strongest bonds you may ever find, so I hope to give you everything you need and are looking for. You probably thought you were leaving your mom behind when you moved to college, but you really just adopted me as a new one. But don’t worry; I’m not a regular mom, I’m a cool mom.

I can’t wait to meet you, little!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
