Dear Best Friend

"They say you met your best friend in college but I came to college with mine."

Dear Best Friend
Molly Markiewicz

Words cannot even describe how much you mean to me and how much your presence has impacted my life, but I'm going to try explain it anyway. Because of you, my mom knows I will always have somebody who will be there for me. Thank you for being such a great friend since day one, even though sometimes you drive me up the wall I would be nowhere without you. Because of you I have somebody I know I can do anything with, whether it’s something like road tripping to North Carolina or just being your moral support while you do your laundry. Thank you for always cheering me up when I was feeling down, but also giving me tough love when I needed it. But also crying right along with me at times. Im thankful we spend most of our time together laughing even if it over something so ridiculous. Thank you for basically being the same person as me and enjoying pretty much everything I enjoy. The memories we’ve made together are unforgettable, and I am so excited to see what the future holds for our friendship. We've been through absolutely everything together from the fights (because we’re both always right.. right?) to being there at each other lowest moments and everything in between. Thank you for letting me take a step into your word and blessing me with a second family. I could not be anymore thankful for the countless amount of times you’ve helped me get through some of my hardest moments. Knowing I have a friend who would drop anything they’re doing just to help me and make sure I am okay is a great feeling. I can not wait to watch you be successful with wherever life takes you, fall in love with somebody who treats you like a queen and being right alongside of you every step of the way. You’re such a beautiful soul inside and out, don’t ever forget that or let anybody tell you different.

Thanks for getting slurpees with me at 1am and talking about life to the early hours of the morning. Thank you having confidence in me when I didn’t even have confidence in myself. Thank you for never judging me but supporting me with whatever I did. Thank you for being my partner in crime. Thanks for being a weirdo with me and not caring with people thought. Thanks for paying for my ice cream that one time. Thanks for knowing what i'm going to say before I even say it. Thanks for dragging me to the gym on days when I just not having it. Thank you for having dance parties and jam sessions in the car. Thanks for owning the cutest dog (besides mines.) Thanks for knowing me better than I know myself.

They say you met your best friend in college but I came to college with mine. You’re the best friend a girl could have. Thank you for everything you do for me, you’re the definition of a true friend. Although we haven’t perfected it yet, you showed me what true happiness is and that’s something I could never be thankful enough for.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
