February Has Nothing Going For It

We are all in a February funk...

February is the worst month of the year. Sorry if your birthday is February or you are some weirdo who's favorite holiday is Presidents Day or Valentine's Day, but I am pretty sure everyone is in a February funk right now. It might be the shortest month of the year but it feels unbearably long. February is like the friend you don't invite anywhere but she comes anyway and you just roll your eyes and ignore her. February is like your cousin who you only see on Christmas and your conversation doesn't ever seem to go past elevator talk. So what I am trying to say is that every other month has something going for it except sucky February.

In January, winter break just ended and you are ready to get back to school. You haven't broken your New Years Resolution yet, you're still a fan of the snow, and winter is at its peak.

February, we will get back to you.

March: It's the month of Spring Break. How could you not be excited? Also, Saint Patrick's day is in March and honestly if you don't like wearing green and drinking green rivers and going to the parade and eating potatoes and corn beef and celebrating as my Dad would say, "our Irish heritage and that potato famine that really hurt our ancestors..." Okay, Dad. But anyways... Spring is on the horizon. March is cool. I'm a fan.

April has Easter! The holiday that invented Brunch. I love Brunch. Yum. Also, you are on the home stretch. Second semester is on it's way to a close and you are feeling good. Spring has sprung, you finally get to put away your winter clothes, and it's so pretty outside :)

May: I MAY be biased. Haha. Punny. But May is my birth month. So obviously it's the best month because we get to celebrate me! Also, school is over and summer has started. What could be better than that? Nothing. Nothing is better than summer.

June: Summer is in full swing. That's literally all I need to say. People, every month of summer is a good month.

July: Also summer... Yay! And the Fourth of July! Who doesn't like fireworks? And BBQ's and summer. Wow. Kinda wishing it was July right now...

August: Summer is coming to a close but you are ready at this point. The weather is still fan- f**ing- tastic, and you can't wait to start that next year of college. You have been home for just too long at this point. Also, the beginning of the school year is always the best.

September: Fall is starting, the leaves are changing, and it's only a little chilly :). Omg. You are making the change from summer clothes to fall clothes. It's a nice time. You are still feeling good.

October: Halloween people! Halloween! And it's like completely fall at this point and the leaves are falling, yadda yadda.

November: Thanksgiving is legit. Food is prime, the weather is still pretty okay. Honestly, Thanksgiving is in the running for being my favorite holiday. It's so chill. And Black Friday deals ;) Also, you have a good break from school this month and you are in the final stretch of first semester.

December: CHRISTMAS. Presents. Hanukkah as well. Whatever you celebrate, December is full of the best holidays. If you go to my school you get a full month off and you literally don't have to do anything. No complaints. Keep doing you December.

So if you can't tell by now, February is the goddamn worst but we all are going through it together people. It's only 29 days. Don't worry it will be over soon and your funk will be gone. Before we know it, it will be March and we will all be happy and on Spring Break. :)

Also, I think February is trying to step up their game with this spring weather it's giving us. Good try, Feb. Good try.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
